I just think generally, CGI started off being something that people making movies could use to add in bits to their movies, here and there, just to compliment the footage that had actually been shot. I...  read more...

1. With it being Christmas Eve, I am SO glad the Christmas shopping nightmare is now over. How I managed to survive it, I will never know, but never the less I will count myself lucky to still be alive. The shopping malls at Christmas time (and sometimes even just at random times throughout the year) are a nightmare. They are just jam packed with millions of people all wanting to buy the same thing. Talk about something single handedly driving you insane. It's a certified craziness contributor in my book. I have however, had the good fortune of being able to buy things online for myself during the year. Now, of course I would do this for Christmas but my partner is old school, and still believes walking around what seems to be endless shops filled with minimal merchandise and maximum people, is the best way of shopping and "finding ideas" of what to buy for people. My partner doesn't realise that you can actually find the exact same things online without having to "stress out" about it, (even though I have mentioned it thousands of times!) Shopping online is so easy. You just find what you want (by browsing around), add it to your virtual cart (not the one that you have to carry and weighs half a tonne because all the trolleys have been taken already!) and have it delivered to your door step within a reasonable time frame (again, without having to carry it all back to your car and then requiring reconstructive surgery on your shoulder). It's definitely the way of the future and something I will almost certainly be doing this time next year, with or without the approval of my partner! read more...

2. I just think generally, CGI started off being something that people making movies could use to add in bits to their movies, here and there, just to compliment the footage that had actually been shot. I think that has changed a lot now and continues to change, with some movies now being done completely in CGI. To be honest, I don't think the CGI quality is quite there yet in terms of being able to do the whole movie and make it look "real". The movies that have been done like this are usually "cartoons" or if they are not meant to be "cartoons", they still look like them. I still think also that ultimately films need a good storyline and plot to work, but with that being said, you still need the on screen images you are seeing to keep you interested and excited also. I know personally, a lot of the movies I have seen recently that have incorporated large amounts of CGI, have just left me going, "what? That just looked stupid?" or "why does he now look like he is made of rubber?" I think actors should be scared to an extent too. The next thing you know, providing voices and voice overs for characters will be the only thing needed to produce a movie and leave the trusty old CGI to do the rest. I like seeing the real Angelina Jolie up on the screen as much as the next guy! I just think that there needs to be a balance and I for one don't want to see CGI take over "real" footage. read more...
