Your Family Is More Important Than Your Religion
I believe that my family is above my religion, they surpass it. I think to truly take a step in your religious servitude one most first take into consideration the hopes and goals of his family. The person most uphold their family instead of ruining it through doing too much for their own religion and religious goals. To be direct, if you lost a loved one: Go to church and isolate yourself our comfort your family if you had to choose one.

I would choose my family over my religion any day of the week.

Because people have to take care of the family, their health, and etc. Then if everything is good in their family then they could think about their religion.
FAMILY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN RELIGION!!!!

It depends on the situation at hand. However, I must say that it sounds very self-centered to place the importance of any personal beliefs (whether it be religious, political, or whatever) above your family as if you would choose the former were you given a choice that would be permanent. Of course, that’s just one situation and I’m not sure if the author was meaning to imply such a situation. But I’d feel betrayed if someone close to me in my family informed me that they’d choose their religious beliefs over me any day should a time ever come where both their beliefs and me needed their assistance. I’m sure it’d make someone feel quite worthless if a person they trusted chose a thought concerning a religious idea over them, an actual living person to whom they’re closely bonded with.

I think it's more a matter of semantics. If we're talking a case where a religion required me to show up to visit people who missed church a couple weeks in a row as opposed to me attending my child's cello recital...I would go to the recital.

If we're talking about a case where my father was given no chance to live and he was inspired through a Bible my mother had (unknowingly to him) had left on his endtable at the hospital, to take what inspired him to a primitive tribe in a remote area of the world, then I would do what my father did. My father didn't hold a family vote. I certainly didn't want to go (I was 12 years old). Frankly, the entire idea scared the beegeebers out of me. lol

I'm very happy my dad did what he did.

I don't see them as being separate. Going to church does not guarantee you will get the person right in you. That comes from within. If you get yourself right then your family will know right, on reflection.

I would have to say most definitely your family should come before any religion. I think this is especially true when it comes to certain belief systems and their rules, for example Jehovah’s Witnesses preventing medical intervention such as blood transfusions etc, which could possibly save the life of their family member; but instead they would rather let them die.
Another good example would be both male and female circumcision for no other reason than the following of a religious doctrine. It’s unnecessary mutilation, especially female circumcision, which is particularly barbaric.

Family should be the most important thing in one's life. Unfortunately, this isn't the case w/ everyone and religion has broken up many a home. It shouldn't but it can *not always) but can make individuals judgemental..... That will put a wedge between the closest of relatives.

The answer varies based on who your family is and what your religion is. If your family is well adjusted and loving but as a young adult you've gotten hooked up with a fanatical cult then I'd say your well adjusted and loving family should be more important. In comparison though, if your family is a collection of abusive drunks sluts and thieves but your church is a beacon of light and a support group for you then by all means the church is more important.

Also remember that very few people have a voluntary choice in either subject. You're born into both your family and your religion. As people get older they may voluntarily choose to change either one (some divorce their parents, some substitute close friends for the family role etc) (some research other religions and switch faiths but frankly the vast majority never do they just take their religion's word that they're the one true faith and all the rest are wrong). SO if you didn't really choose either one then it's pretty hard to dictate one must be more important than the other in your life. Things gain importance in your life when they actually present real value to you and mean something to you.

Depends on the religion.

Is your family more important than the law?
I believe that my family is above my law, they surpass it. I think to truly take a step towards being a law abiding citizen, one must first take into consideration the hopes and goals of ones family. The person must uphold their family instead of ruining it through doing too much adhering to the law.

You would choose your faith over your family? So if your faith needed you and your family needed you, you would choose your faith?
