| Young People Need Better Role Models. |
| I think that now-a-days, the younger generations are being influenced by overrated movie star, singers and socialites way too much. The rowdy and unacceptable behaviour of celebs, adored by thousands of young fans are not a good example for young teens, as they are constantly put in the spotlight or even praised for their drug and alcohol abuse, constant partying, unethical behaviour, etc. |

Teenagers have to stop relying on the popular Hollywood star to shape their views and opinions. With
celebrities committing crimes and acting in such a disgraceful matter, how could people let
themselves follow this nonsense. People should focus on what is important to them and to their
future. Yes, in life, it is important to have role models but we must reflect on what kind of role
model we want to have. The most successful people have role models that are a positive influence and
don't advocate false idealistic beliefs that can harm or inflict pain on others. After all, it all
depends on ones choice, you choose your destiny, and if you want to look up to someone who is not
only a drunk, careless and idiotic person, but most importantly, a failure, that is the choice you
must make. |

Yes.
I agree absolutely.
Kids are so lost. No one to look up to, to emulate.:-(
What else have they got when Mom and Dad are not at home??
Think about it........ |

I feel that celebs must realise that in accepting the role they will always be in the public eye and
should act responsibly, i am not saying that they cannot go out clubbing, get drunk and vomit on the
pavement,
but their treatment of other people, the language they use, are all seen by children, and taken in,
Pinks album, Mizunderstood, had me spelling misunderstood wrong for years. |

Gee, is there anyone out there who can mount a really legitimate argument against this?!
Dedicated readers of this site know that I am a broken record in my condemnation of television as a
corrupter of youth. Of course, movies are just as bad.
I am not exactly a prude, but the role models and principles that children are taught by TV are
beyond the pale. What passes for “humor” on sit-coms is an example: Constant put-downs of WASP
men (who are the new “dumb blondes”), sarcastic and cruel jokes at others’ expense, kids
back-talking to parents, etc.
Drug use and promiscuity are flaunted, with teens just salivating at wanting to try them to be part
of their in-crowd of peers. Sexually suggestive clothing and pregnancy without marriage are
presented as normal on shows like “Sex and the City,” and no one questions it.
Just say no to TV! |

that!or somebody else that follows that principle.everybody else in this world is lost. |

Absolutely! Drunken celebrities with their emotional troubles entering and exiting rehab is all
celeb-news have to show. I am not judging celebrities for their party hard attitudes but it is the
media that should focus on promoting positive things that celebrities indulge into. Showing the
trouble in celebrity marriages and other jealousy gossip is not setting the right examples for our
youth.
Individuals who have contributed in literature and other significant fields should be promoted more. |

Yes, agree. Young people do need better role models. Celebrities are constantly in our face. They
are on the news, all over the internet and in magazines and there always seems to be story about a
celebrity taking drugs, checking into rehab, dropping out of rehab etc.
There is too much focus on celebrities and I personally cannot understand why so many of them are
abusing themselves with drugs and alcohol. It isn't good for teenagers to see pictures of their
idols in the newspaper taking drugs and behaving strangely as a result of those drugs or because
they are drunk.
In my opinion, there should be less focus on celebrities, or at least less focus on the ones who
choose to ruin their lives with alcohol and drugs.
Perhaps if these celebrities were kept out of the spotlight more, then young teens would find other
people to look up to. |

Children's role models depend on who the child is..if the child likes music its probably a musician
so not all children are obsessing over the most known actors and actresses which means they are not
looking up to them in any way |

There are plenty of positive role models in the world for young people, however the advertisements
that are geared toward the future generation are to turn them into mindless consumers. They have to
become the next cog on the wheel of our consumer driven society, if not society itself would have
to change, the economy would have to undergo an unprecedented overhaul. Add to that a pitiful
education system in this county and you have a generation of dumbed down money spending celebrity
following drones. Parents in this country need to take responsibility for what their children are
involved, read, watch, play, you know parenting. |

Children choose their own role models, it's the way they are raised which determines what they
respect and find admirable in people. Role models aren't necessarily famous people either, they can
be anyone that the child respects or admires. It is also a matter of opinion on what a 'bad' role
model is and what a 'good' role model is and everybody has their own opinion on what that is. |
