You Should Have To Pass An I.Q. Test To Gain Rights As An Adult.
People with lesser intelligence should not have the full rights of an adult U.S. Citizen. The ignorant only bring down society as a whole.

That'd be interesting, I'd have been an 11 year old adult with the right to vote, even though i had no clue about voting.
I think perhaps life experience counts for more than IQ.

I totally agree. All one has to do is read the local paper or turn on the tv to see how stupidity has taken over. The current crop of children seem to think the more stupid you are the more socially acceptable you are. This may be true while in school or among their peers but its not the case when they get into the workplace.

98% of registered voters in America vote based on emotion rather that fact and deduction. That's how we got this president, baconbust.

So does this mean someone could be 67 still be a "child" because they didn't pass an IQ test. My brother has autism, do you think we should tell him hes never going to be able to be a adult US citizen because he cannot pass an exam but is one of the smartest people I know. This sounds like an idea an ignorant communist would come up with.

It so laughable to have IQ Test to constitute as adult citizen, based on intelligent... I would be the use of such result, can you do anything to help the society? Just fine examples are George W. Bush, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagon... Not everybody are smart! It all on life experiences and willingness to learn, I myself included.

Ignorance is different than intelligence. But you apparently don't know the difference so good luck with that I. Q. Test.

Now I have to disagree. At least if you have a low IQ you have an excuse. It’s the people that are relatively smart but are as ignorant as a bag of hammers that bug me.

Wow.
I had to vote on this one.
It made me laugh.
I disagree because not everyone has to be a super-genius to be an 'adult'.

This would mean that mentally handicapped people and adults in a coma (as 2 examples) wouldn't have any legal rights! They could be murdered, thrown in prison for no reason, anything.
Also if someone fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury, they could potentially lose their rights. This would literally create a "sub-person" class, not dissimilar to the status of slaves in most cultures.

No, it is very much undesirable to be declared as an adult by giving IQ tests, it is absolutely ridiculous. Physical adolescent comes with age and mental adolescent is just a matter of time to different persons. On the other hand IQ tests are for measuring intelligence but adaptability of such test is a grave concern to us. Apart from the normal people there are lots of psychiatric patients who are not fit for IQ tests, also have the right to be an adult citizen of a country. Many of the people in third world country are still illiterate and they are also not fit for such tests. Moreover scoring in an IQ test doesn’t reveal anything about a person’s practical sense of life. Overall this type of tests only brings out unnecessary diversity among people which may result into civil unrest.

That is not true at all. And in saying that, you would have to be the ignorant one. A test of intelligence doesn't prove anything. All it proves is that you have a relatively good memory and you pretty much have no opinion of your own. Anyone can pass a test, but it takes a real person to speak their minds. I highly doubt that 98% of the voters base their choice off of emotion, if that were so, I don't even believe that we would have a president at all. Everything that the candidates say is not always true or factual. If we were to have everyone at least 15-100 take an I.Q test, In my opinion we would have more adult citizens that range from 50-85. People doubt it, but sometimes elderly people are the most knowledgable. IQ tests are ways to exploit people and put them into negative categories that reflect on society. That is rediculous. Everyone has a right to vote when they become of age. We have enough laws concerning adulthood already, we don't need anymore.

Reliability of several IQ tests is questionable. Most of the IQ tests are based on the MCQ format and even if you did not know the answer to a question you can get it right through a lucky guess. Also, there is no way of ensuring that a person is interested in passing a test that he is taking just to be eligible to vote for instance or get any other rights as a US citizen for that matter. A lot of people are not getting their due rights as it is and adding another formality may just aggravate the issue further.

Why should anyone have to pass an IQ test to gain rights?
Who would choose what the questions and tests would be?
This sort of selectivity is bordering on dangerous as a form of social control.
What would happen to those who failed for what ever reason? What if you were not performing well on the day of the tests?
If you began to loose your faculties through illness or age would the rights be then taken away.
It's a good topic for debate but I doubt it would solve who voted or for whom they voted.
Many intelligent people did vote for Bush, which is worrying. However even if they'd taken the test they would have passed and voted for him anyway.
This form of social control would lead to a society based on selection and control and couldn't work in a democracy.
Democratic government with equal and human rights as a top priority could never allow IQ tests as a form of selection.

Superficially, this idea is appealing. Many of us probably have some political obsession of our own that, we're convinced, could easily be resolved if only the unwashed masses would see the light. It's undoubtedly true that many people aren't very well informed about important issues. But I'm not convinced taking the vote away from them is the right response.

There have been times in history when the intellectual classes became obsessed with wacky ideas. Communism and its various lesser forms are examples. In those times, the common sense of the ordinary person acted as an anchor to restrain the excesses of the elite.

Ultimately, your argument amounts to saying that democracy doesn't work. I tend to agree with Winston Churchill who observed that "Democracy was the worst possible system, except for all the others."

THANKS FOR A REASONABLY WRITTEN STATEMENT THAT CAN BE DEBATED. SO MANY ARE WRONGLY OR VERY POORLY WRITTEN.

NO! No! No! IQ tests of any kind must never be a way to put people into or out of any group. Actually, there is no accurate IQ test.

Having lots of smarts can make a person a good driver or just get in the way and cause abstractions.

Being an adult in every culture has always been defined by the number of years lived, as it should be.

Mentally disabled people deserve the same rights as any non-disabled person of the same number of years.

The ability to drive safely and to know the rules of the road are the only ways a person should have the right to drive.

A written IQ test does not measure the full abilities of an auto mechanic or home builder.

No, let's never us IQ tests to decide who is an adult with the right to live as the adult who the person is.

IQ tests aren't accurate, how would it have anything to do with presidency anyways? The president doesn't run the government they are just part of a show. It's all a conspiracy.

Even though I did have a high score on an IQ exam when I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome (mild form of autism -don't care what anyone thinks about that, just including it for reference), I really don't think IQ exams/tests are an accurate way to define intelligence. I believe it depends on the individual. I have met people who have scored high, and are very dumb. I have also met those who scored low, but are intelligent. No test should be used to define an individuals intelligence. People are people, and there will always be a variety.
