One Should Be Required To Be An Organ Donor.
(When a person is already deceased.) Why not save someones life if you possibly could? Seems incredibly selfish to say no. I don't think the government should even give its citizens a choice in the matter. Think of how many individuals died sitting on waiting lists because others weren't registered organ donors.

The way i see it is that if the person is dead, they wont know if the organs are gone or not so why not just take them anyways?

Which one? Certainly not everyone. But, I agree with your general idea. If one dies and has healthy organs that could ultimately save somebody's life, then yes they should be required to donate that organ.

I guess it goes against one's right to die with what "God" gave him, or some may think it is unethical to give body parts and organs away, or receive them. I think it's a religious thing.

I don't understand it, I would think any reasonable God would rather have someone live with new donated parts then die with the parts he gave him.

I am not an organ donor because I was afraid they would take out my organs before I die. I heard that had happened before.

Aren't I a selfish greedy one.

Hootan Roozrokh, MD, of California has been charged with prescribing excessive doses of morphine and sedatives to hasten the death of a man with adrenal leukodystrophy and irreversible brain damage, in order to procure his organs for transplant. The case being brought against Roozrokh is the first such case in the US.

It probably happens, but I'm guessing it is in the cases where the individual is going to inevitably die anyway. Also some organs must be taken while the individual is still "beating" or close too.

What if people are on medication (e.g. Steriods for medical purposes) all of there life and when they come to die, there organs cannot be donated.

You comment is equivalent to saying,"What if the person has a bum body part?" Obviously the simplest was to solve that would be to make this individual or individual's body part an exception to donation.

I think it'd be nice if everyone did, but not from obligation, and I certainly don't think it should be made compulsory. There are religious grounds that this would go against, and it'd take away people's right to choose. And what right would the government have over individuals dead bodies? Surely if it wasn't up to the person in question, it'd be up to their closest relative/friend instead? Yes, it may seem selfish if people don't donate their organs, but they'll probably have their own reasoning behind it.
Also, I doubt everyone has healthy enough organs to donate to others.

NO WAY!!! When I got my driver license and I was deliberating over whether to say yes or no to being an organ donor, the attendant at the DMV window where I was filling out the form said, "Don't say yes. The doctors do not always take organs from dead people."

I guess I was right to be skeptical, also... But tell me this, how does the "DMV" clerk have so much insight about this?

Although I respect your desire to help save lives through organ donation I don't think it's fair or simple to mandate donation. Consider these complications: 1) Religious objection, 2) Private knowledge you engaged in a risky behavior which might unintentionally hurt an organ recipient, 3) Alternative bequeths of the body - like giving it to a medical school for training, or to that artist who plasticizes the tissues to make art, 4) A desire to be intact for viewing by your children, etc. Or 5) Some individual literally hate society and most other people, how can you make them give their tissues to the object of their scorn?

Religious objection, can you elaborate? Is their really any rationality to a religious view that stresses the importance to keep someone's organs after death. Do dead people really have rights, if the do what for?

If your dead, you absolutely don't need your organs. What is the difference if it's used for another or art? Or perhaps can we make these organs that are taken for transplant purposes only.

I think you will be intact regardless of which organ you donate, there are no brain transplants, so they would not need to cut your face. Clothing covers any body scars.

If someone hates society, why not just take their organs to spite them. I am actually serious about this, one who is so inconsiderate to our society, and purposely wants to continue harm to others (like to people in desperate need of an organ transplant), why should we respect their rights, even after their dead.

Hell no. I was raised Jewish and you can't be buried in a Jewish burial ground if you are an organ donor or have tattoos.

Now I'm not Jewish, I have tattoos, and I am an organ donor, but it would kill my mother to know that her body would be raped of its organs after her death which would mean she couldn't be buried in the holy ground she wants to rest for eternity in.
