He starts with us from where we are now, and because he loves us He accepts us as we are now but loves us too much to leave us in the mud of deception and lies and abuse He changes us from the inside-out not outside-in.

Amen. I feel like if you're a good person and yet you don't believe in God, you're still going to that sweet afterlife, if one does exist. Some people want to be perfect by being so religiously devoted that they completely ignore others around them. I'd take the girl who feeds the homeless but doesn't believe over the guy who goes to church everyday but does nothing for his neighbor.

That's why we are given Jesus right? How do you mean close to God? Physically or transcendentally? I am sure God is near because he is omnipresent or prayer/communication is open.

 Jesus was resurrected in to heaven with 500 witnesses present (Acts 11:1) Jesus is not physically on earth anymore obviously, however the Word Of God The Bible does say that He would return to earth again someday.
When that someday is no one knows for sure.
The bible says so in so many words that is the way that it shall happen at some point in future time.

"Prayer" is just SEMANTICS for a scientific fact of PSYCHIC-CONNECTION between spiritual entities. God and you for example is one such connection. Also human lovers have a soul tie as well.
Identical twins have a very similar connection.
And there are many possibilities and even the probability that there are far more many other and additional psychic connections within the scientific field of possibility.
As we as human are in the stages of infancy in the scientific knowledge that which we know not is far broader than that which is presently known.

When one prays one has opened the psychic line in the spirit of man to "reach out and touch the face of God" in a manner of speaking, as the poet John Gillespie Magee Jr. "High Flight" says in closing. That expresses the proper sentiment more accurately....
