Oh good can I play.
There is a very good saying,
Just because you own a musical instrument doesn't make you a musician. |

There is no "maybe" on this site, so I write here.
Learning the guitar is like anything else: You'll only do it if it's interesting and fun. If you
want to learn, get sheet music of groups you like, or at least, likeable groups. Despite the
talents of the guitarists in question, songbooks for Queen and The Police are widely available and
fairly easy to learn, or find other three/four chord groups you like and buy their songbooks. If
those groups are not to your taste, blues albums are an even easier way to start, usually with three
chord, twelve bar progressions that are easy to learn and translate to other songs. Play along as
you listen to music you enjoy, you'll be more willing to do it.
And if you want to start learning or do guitar solos, take note of something Richie Blackmore (Deep
Purple) once said: "The average saxophonist is better than the average guitarist. Start by
practicing saxophone solos." I would say he was right, having played (or should I say, tried to
play) both instruments. Sax solos are single notes, not chords, so they're much easier to follow
and listen for because a sax cuts through, unlike a piano or a guitar. |

If you can't get an instructor and you don't know how to read music and you just want to start
jamming on guitar:
Make a list of songs that you like a lot and have guitar parts you can easily recognize. Get on line
and find the tabulate for the songs. You should learn to read time...it's not that difficult and you
can pick it up pretty quick when learning songs you know.
Depending on how natural it is for you, find the thing that comes easiest and makes the most sense.
It's a matter of repetition. Slowly, then over and over and over until the magical moment occurs
when it happens naturally.
As soon as you cross that first bridge, let the sound you are making suggest the next sound. Find it
and learn how to make it happen. As soon as that gets too difficult and makes you want to throw the
guitar out a window, go back to the tablature, find another piece and start the process again.
There's a good chance you'll create a song before you learn how to play someone else's. Since you
can't afford music lessons and are down to having to learn on your own, being a song creator is
probably where you'll find your most pleasure. Great guitarists are a dime a dozen and they are sick
good. |

Learning guitar or any other instrument is not very easy in every aspect. Though nowadays there are
many instruction cds and lesson videos available in the market, but not everyone has got a proper
learning from those cds or videos. It is just because of the fact that we always need someone in
front of who can monitor our learning procedures because often it happens that we make mistakes in
our learning and there is no one to point out that, this is what the most common problem is when we
are learning from video lessons. Besides this when we are starting something we should be aware of
that at from what position we are starting so that we can keep a track of how much we are improving.
This is only possible when there is a trainer in front of us and not in the video. |
