Some can't even quit after they find out they have cancer. |

Smoking is so addictive and it is so very hard to quit. Yes, people realize that it kills but
overcoming the habit and urges are very difficult. There are many resources out there now though and
people need to take advantage of these. There are quit lines that provide support and the patches to
help quit. Even insurance companies are footing the bill and trying to increase the amount of
quitters. You would think that the fact that dying would stop people from smoking but I guess it
takes alot more than that. After people find out that they have cancer or some sort of breathing
problem, it is already too late. |

I've never fully understood people who smoke, I understand its highly addictive, but that's beside
the point. The desire to live longer and not die of cancer early in life should more than
over-shadow the desire to put that cancer-stick in your mouth. |

I'm for it because it's true, if you keep smoking you could die if not, you'll suffer from smoke
related diseases |

I don't like your reasoning on this. First, you should know already that second hand smoke is far
more dangerous than actually smoking itself. Next, you should also realize that the debate itself is
whether or not [YOU] should have enough power to tell someone to stop smoking. A better topic would
have been; Smoking, Good or Bad?
I'll also explain the following; A person may smoke for various reasons - and yes there are many -
so you shouldn't be saying they should stop before they have cancer. What if a reason would be to
get cancer? Think about it, suicide would be seen as someone smoking 2-3 packs a day, until their
time is up. Not to mention that this is only just one point of view, since like I've said, there are
many different reasons for someone to smoke.
You do something because you yourself, are dictating what you do, be it good or bad for your own
health. Telling that person to quit is just your suggestion, they could potentially take it and make
it their own idea, however; for those that continue to smoke, regardless, have already made up their
minds. |

To quote Mick Jager "He cant be a man if he doesn't smoke, the same cigarettes as me' Who wants to
live for ever anyway. |
