| A Gift Is Considered Yours |
| When someone buys you a gift for you, who has the right to it? The person who bought the gift with their own money or the person they bought it for. Let's say they want it back. They bought it, so who gets it?? I think that the person who is recieveing the gift should have the right to have it. |

Of course, that's why they give it to you. It even holds up in court. |

A gift is a gift. Once you give it, you can't take it back and claim rights to it. I think this is
the most ridiculous thing that people do. Anything that you give away cannot be claimed back. In a
court, they will tell you the same thing. Once it is gone, it's gone. |

The whole point of a gift is that you own it yourself. |

If someone bought it for you then yes. |

Yes the receiver of the Gift owns it after it has been given. The only exception (an engagement
ring is not a gift, it is a TOKEN of a contract) , is wedding gifts. The gifts given at a wedding
are for the couple together. If the Couple separates (not by death) the people who gave the gifts
may ask for them back. This is not usually done for small items like toasters or towels, (although
in principle it would apply), but is reserved for larger gifts like real estate, vehicles, anything
of large enough value. This is upheld in court, as I have a friend who had to give back a vacation
house after he and his wife were divorced. |

A gift is a gift, and once the gift is given the giver loses the right to it, as Damian mentioned.
The only exception is with an engagement ring as far as I am aware. An engagement ring is considered
to be a form of contract if you call of the engagement the contract is thus broken so the ring must
be returned, unless otherwise agreed upon by the couple. |

The person who receives the gift, receives the ownership and right. This is why in a court of law,
if money is given as a gift, as opposed to a loan, it doesn't have to be replayed. |
