I reluctantly say yes. I do believe that the best bet to deal successfully with addiction is
through a belief in a higher power. Jesus is fine, but it is dangerous to say it must be Jesus,
because you will lose a lot of people. |

I agree that Jesus is better for addictions. However, one must not resist therapy if it is
necessary. I believe that through God all things are possible. If you have an addiction, you should
ask God for guidance and help. Then once you ask him, trust that he will help you. One must trust
God in order to receive His help. With dangerous addictions, one should seek professional help, but
one definitely should also put his/her trust in God. God can help anyone overcome even the strongest
of addictions. He is great and one should trust their addiction to Him. The Bible clearly states
that with God all things are possible. |

When you're sick you go to a doctor, when you car breaks you go to a mechanic. This is not a
statement against faith but I think most priests and ministers would agree that your best chance of
success lies with professional rehab. In my experience your priest will usually be able to recommend
a reputable and effective rehabilitation facility. |

I think Jesus is one of the most dangerous addictions a person can possibly have. |

The best solution is having responsibility for your actions in the first place, but if you can't
handle that, exchanging an addiction for an illegal substance with religion isn't getting you
anywhere. Being hooked on Jesus is no better than being hooked on heroin, perhaps it's worse
because at least heroin is real. |

There's obviously nothing wrong with having a strong Evangelical Christian faith, but if you're
suffering from a possibly fatal addiction, you need to go to rehab and place your trust in medical
professionals. There are some religions that seem to dismiss medical expertise, preferring to
replace this with pure faith. The fact is that the two can certainly go hand-in-hand. No one should
avoid treatment for an illness because they believe that their faith will be enough to get them
through it.
A combination of belief, prayer and professional help may be what those suffering from an addiction
really need. The faith aspect may help them along psychologically, increasing their resolve as they
try to kick a habit. Professional help, however, will address any underlying medical problems. |
