Well talking about the Japanese we can say that they have a different culture which we can not or
may not relate to us. The Japanese live in a very separate social infrastructure with certain
ideologies and culture. According to their culture whaling is very much included and they define
that it is needed for “scientific researches”. Now if the Japanese are so sure about such a
culture and if they really make use of whales after killing them in such scientific researches then
I do not think that there should be any problem in it. Though it is not hard and fast that
everything in every culture is good but when someone belonging to the culture is having no problem
with it then I think no one else should also have a problem with it either. |

If whaling is part of Japanese culture, who are we to tell them that they can't do it. We shout
loudly enough when our own culture is stepped on, so why are we so keen to trample all over Japan's
culture?
Is it for the poor defenseless cute, fluffy whales? I find it a bit pathetic of people to get so
high minded about animals.
Is killing whales is not justified because they are 'intelligent' where does it end? Do we only
kill intelligent animals? Does that mean fish, chicken, beef, lamb and pork are all doomed to death
because of their lack of animal intelligence? Feeling sorry for animals is such a teenage middle
class pursuit. Making the distinction between whales and chickens is nonsense. If it's based on
'science'? I am worried about what the scientists are wasting their time doing! They may well be
intelligent animals, but why would their intelligence have anything to do with it. They execute
intelligent people in the USA all the time if they commit crimes. But somehow, because they aren't
cute, or because they have committed a crime, it makes their lives worth less than a whale.
Haxor thinks killing whales is no different to killing human beings. I can only presume Haxor is out
with Greenpeace at the moment, protecting his fellow species.
Whatever reason the Japanese whale should be respected, we don't see people protesting outside KFC
that all the poor little chickens are being reared and killed for profit.
The Spanish have their bullfighting, the French eat frogs, and the Japanese whale. What's the
problem? |

Whaling in Japan continues to go on despite numerous outcries and protests from other nations that
call for it to cease.
There is just no way that you can justify the killing of an intelligent mammal on any level. Whales
have been scientifically proven to be of "above normal intelligence" compared to other animals.
To me, killing whales is no different to killing human beings. I know for some people that may be
hard to swallow, but the fact of the matter is, when you kill something and it is "aware" of what is
going on, then it just isn't right. The way in which the Japanese hunt and kill these whales, in my
opinion, is inhumane and no less than murder.
They claim that they are using them for "scientific research", which quite frankly, I find a load of
nonsense. What are they "scientifically" testing? How fast they can make certain whale species
extinct? Just how much of a mess they can make of the oceans natural ecosystem? I can't see how any
acceptable form of experimenting on animals, that requires them to die, should continue to go on. |

Killing of animals unnecessarily is just wrong. If that's their culture, they need to change it. |

Whales are just as intelligent as dolphins. It is barbaric |

Whaling should be allowed for the Inuit who use it for food, clothing, kayaks etc. And none of it
goes to waste. |

I definitely say no. They're going to cause certain whale species to go extinct and they're going to
make a big mess of the oceans ecosystem. I'm also strongly against experimenting in any animals,
especially if it means for that animal to die! But obviously they don't care. |

Most of these whales killed for "research" seem to make it into Japanese restaurants and
supermarkets. The US Navy also is screwing up the what's left of them with high-intensity sonar
systems.
All of this needs to stop. |

Canobolism was culture for the aztects, and we all proclaim how wrong it is, so why do we let the
japanese whale, due to the fact that it is their culture,
female circumcision is part of the Masai culture and we all think it is disgusting.
Double standards, or just uneducated |

Dude, we are just going to destroy the whales.
Make them extinct.
I don't want to be the cause for that. |

Whaling should be banned. I don't understand why the Japanese need to kill so many whales for
"scientific research." Isn't it better to research live animals? They can attach tags to the whales
that collect data such has how deep they dive, how far they travel, etc. At the rate the whales are
being killed, many species will be close to extinction within the next 10 or so years. |

I don't think anyone has a right to kill these beautiful creatures and the Japanese have a plentiful
supply of food and other raw materials so why torture whales.
Just because the Spanish still allow the dreadfully cruel bull fights and the French cruelly kill
frogs doesn't mean that whaling's OK.
We should be campaigning for compassion for all creatures in all cultures not making statements to
the effect that cruelty is alright so long as it's part of someones culture. Not every part of every
culture is ethically or morally acceptable.
I'm a member of Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth and many Animal Welfare societies and I believe
that the good work done by compassionate people is doing something to relieve some suffering in the
animal world.
I believe that we have a duty to protect those who can't speak for themselves and I include whales
in this belief. |
