Your Ancestor Were Monkeys
Here's your opportunity to fess up. I know my ancestors weren't and genetic scientist are proving it. But you wont get my side til I get off work......

Actually my ancestors where German coal miners and Irish peasants. But if you are talking about evolution, yes, they are.

 No, they weren't.

we evolved along side monkeys from a common ancestor, which was monkey-like but not a 'monkey'.

Not only were my ancestors monkeys but we are still basically monkeys. I wonder if our descendants will be having the same silly argument about us.

 actually, humans didn't evolve from monkeys. we evolved from a lemur-like creature (which monkeys also evolved from).

Only the ignorant think that evolution says we evolved from monkeys...

 Even my son told me all these debate sites are like this.........no we didn't , ----------------said so, your dumb. And that's supposed to be an intellectual debate. He told me I was beating my head against a wall of juveniles, and I really think he's right. That's right, ignor it, go back to being a juvenile.

We’re related to monkeys through a common ancestor (whether or not you can call that ancestor an actual monkey could be debatable). Yes, I did use the plural form to include everyone, because, in fact, your DNA is also about 98 percent similar to chimpanzees just like mine is. I guess we’re going to see a debate arise next that claims bees and wasps are not related? Also, lets see this genetic science that “proves” otherwise please.

 Hizashi, thanks for you comment..If you do a little research on th International chimpanzee chromosone22 concortium you will find that those results were change in 2004, When that 98% figure was released by Roy Britten of Cal- Tech, he acutally said we differed by 1.44%. 1.5% of 3 billion chrosomes is approx a difference of 45 million chrosomes, not a small amount. Roy Britten released those figure BEFORE the chimpanzee dna had been completely published. Now (2002) with more published comparisons of only snipets of the chimp dna strand he has revised the accuracy of his statements to less than 95% similar, that was testing only 1 billion of the 3 billion chrosomes. The "scientist are amazed at the uniqueness of humans" This was taken from the Proceeding of the National Academy of Science (Dol:10.1073/pnas.725 10699) If there was any more current finding than this and I believe there should be I really don't know about them, but will keep researching. I find it difficult to believe that the newest results would go backwards reading the other 2 billion chrosomes, but I'll check....If some said 99% similar, I would check to see who he was quoting and when that person said it.

Lol, they say we have evolved from monkeys. Then answer me this, why are there still monkeys in existence. Yeah, they may take the same form as us but i mean, ... Come on... Don't you thinks its a bit of an exaggerated?

Edit: Yes firefox, my point exactly, monkeys are still monkeys because we didn't evolve from them. And also, don't you think that they would have changed slightly to look like us, if we came from them, even if they evolve "in another direction" as you so put.?

 Monkeys are still in existence because we didn't evolve from them, we evolved from a common ancestor.

and also when one part of a species evolved then it is possible that some of the species will stay roughly the same or evolve in another direction.

Surely better that than believing we all come from two people and are therefore interbred....

 Since not everything in the Bible can be take literally and shouldn't be, or out of context The creation story is incomplete and Christians are only going on conjecture of how God did it. He obviously didn't consider it the main context of the Bible since only 3 pages were devoted to it. But just to put out a theory that is plausable..There were other people on the earth at ten time, but God personally created Adam and Eve from the clay and made them the 1st spirtual people...I think that's plausable since Adam and Eves only offspring were males ( Cain, Abel, and Seth.)

I'm not sure if you were born in the zoo but my ancestors were humans. Unless you go far enough back to encounter homo erectus, homo ergaster, homo habilis etc. Which were all more monkey-like in form but at no point in the evolutionary scale did humans evolve directly from monkeys.
