Well every standard of living indicator is up. Certainly nostalgia demands that we yearn for a
simpler time, but life was rubbish in the 40's compared to now. |

I think we probably do at the moment, but with the world population something like three times more
than it was when our grandparents were young (and rapidly increasing all the time), I don't how long
it will remain so. |

True but it's not just technology. Also 1) Social freedoms and equalities, although never perfect,
are better than they were two generations ago. 2) Cultural exposure is much broader now and yes
technology has a hand in that but has face to face interaction worldwide. It's a much smaller world
than in the days of our grandparents. 3) Basics of life are so much better - food, energy,
transportation, again tech has a hand in that but so does human experience and engineering.
I'm sure there's much more. I just didn't want this debate to be solely about merits of technology. |
