I think that parent who smoke in front of their children should be prosecuted because is it fair for
the child to be inhaling all this second hand smoke and then when they become older start to smoke
as well i think that people love money more than the people in the universe BAN SMOKING prosecute
smoking companies as well because its killing us and its horrible |

Second hand smoke is a KILLER |

I agree go outside there lungs are way too small for it |

I heard that second hand smoking is worse than first hand. I believe it. Poor children aren't even
wanting to smoke, and their selfish parents pretty much make them but smoking around them! It's
horrible! |

I think parents should never smoke when children are around. They don`t have to pay for their
parents addictions, it is not fair to them. It can harm them and parents should definitely be
punished for smoking around their children. |

Poisoning your child is abuse. Therefore there is no reason they shouldn't be prosecuted. They know
what the effects of smoking are on the children. |

Smoking in front of your - or anyone's - kids should be illegal, as it is the same as the cigarette
companies providing propaganda to kids stating that it is ok to smoke because adults do it. Smoking
in general should be illegal; an industry that kills its consumers should be prosecuted for the
murder of millions of people that have died due to cigarette-related illnesses. |

It is clearly written on the packets of every cigarette that “Cigarette smoking is injurious to
health”, but still men and women are addicted to it. Smoking can cause problems related to lungs
and heart. But not only active smokers there are also people in this world who do not smoke yet you
can find nicotine in their blood because they have been passive smokers. By staying with people who
smoke you also breathe in the burnt tobacco, even though you are not a smoker. Thus the same issue
goes to children who become constant passive smokers by staying with parents who smoke a lot. In
such a situation it is the responsibility of the parents to maintain certain things so that their
children do not get affected with such things and cause health problems. Failure to do so, parents
should be punished. |

I totally agree with this for many reasons!! There is known evidence that smoking when young,
whether directly or passively, has a much more significant impact on future health than starting
when a young adult. However, there is a major health risk associated with smoking irrespective of
when smokers' start and half of all smokers will die prematurely due to smoking.
In the UK, about 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys at the age of 15 smoke. The higher proportion of girls
smoking is thought to be due to the (false) assumption the smoking acts as an appetite suppressant
and aids dieting. The current likelihood of boys and girls smoking has reversed from the statistics
in the 1970s and 1980s when more secondary school boys smoked.Smoking has definite detrimental
health effects on children and known smokers have double to six fold increased likelihood of
respiratory illnesses including coughs, phlegm, wheeziness and shortness of breathe. This results in
significantly poorer attendance records for these children at school. It is also known that in
non-smoking children exposed to secondary smoke i.e. Passive smokers, there is an increased risk of
bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma and other chronic respiratory illnesses. Infants also suffer
considerably from secondary smoke. This is compounded by the size of the children being smaller, the
concentration of the toxins and carcinogens in cigarette smoke are extenuated. Babies, infants and
children all have significantly increased likelihood of contracting cancer dependent upon the amount
of time they have been exposed to secondary smoke. There is a directly proportional correlation
between exposure and risk and as such babies risks are greatest, followed by infants then children.
Smoking in front of children, particularly infants and babies is considered by some to be a form of
child abuse. Infants and babies cannot escape from the secondary smoke and in the case of babies;
they cannot even ask to get away from cigarette smoke! Children have the right to be protected from
passive smoking and as such, parents must recognise that passive smoking causes ill-health in
children and that they have a responsibility not to inflict harm on their children. The simplest way
forward is to simply never smoke around children. |

Yes. I definitely think that parents who smoke in front of their children should face some form of
punishment. Not only are they teaching children that smoking is okay, they are also putting their
child's life in danger. People should not be allowed to smoke in front of another person who is
under the age of 18.
In a child's eye, parents can do no wrong. Children watch everything their parents do and they tend
to copy them. So, if parents are smoking cigarettes in front of their children, then the children
will be thinking that it is okay and will soon be more tempted to smoke.
Parents should be prosecuted for attempted assault or murder because of the damage that smoking does
to themselves and their children. After all, second hand smoke has been proven to be more dangerous
than actually smoking. So, if parents are smoking in front of their children, they are hurting them.
It is a form of child abuse and should definitely not be permitted. |

I think that parents and others who smoke in the presence of young children are irresponsible . I
believe that there should be legal rules put into play to protect children from the harmful effects
of smoking.
Any adult who smokes in front of children should be prosecuted forcing the child to be a passive
smoker.
There's enough publicity to let everyone know how harmful smoking is.
It is shocking to see people smoking over children in prams and in the company of small children and
something should be done to stop this. Perhaps anyone found smoking in the presence of young people
could risk a spot fine?
Smokers talk a lot about their rights to smoke but we need to consider the rights of others,
especially children not to be forced into passive smoking.
The only way to get the message about the dangers of smoking is to take positive action to
eventually stop all smoking in public and especially where there are children. |

Prosecuted??
Why doesn't the gov't just ban cigarettes? Because the gov't makes a whole lotta money on tobacco
taxes. The persons deserving of prosecution are those involved at the top - tobacco makers,
politicians, lobbyists - they purposely made cigarettes more addictive, and tried to cover it up!
But you'd rather throw a mom, who's addicted to nicotine, in jail. Makes sense. What will come
next? Prosecution of mothers who feed their kids fast food? |

My mum smokes in front of me and what difference would it make if she went outside, she would still

I am against anything that takes our rights from us but I do not think smoking tobacco is a good
thing at all. And most people who I do know that smoke, smoke outside of their house so others are
around the smoke. |

No i don't think they should have to go through prosecution because of smoking...smoking has been
around forever and its not illegal so if the child knows that smoking is bad for you i really don't
think it matters |

No, If smoking was illegal then yea, but it's not. If a parent swears in front of the child, will
the parent be prosecuted because of a word? This is really stupid. Me, my sister and brother would
have to go though all this trouble because our parents smoke?
First off children are smart, we have people telling you it is not good, but still it is LEGAL!!!!!
The people in the For column most not have any parents who smoked because think of the children, why
have there life turned upside down like that?.
Also to e0hall03 I know MANY parents who smoke outside, or away form there children, my parents do,
neighbors almost everyone i grow up knowing that was an adult with young children did. Grandparents
didn't but they didn't need to because they live alone now. |

I think this is ridiculous. Yea, so smoking is bad and it causes health problems and yes people die
from smoking. However, it is perfectly legal to smoke and people are making an informed choice to
do so. Also, the tobacco tax does wonderful for our country. People have been smoking for years
and years and years and it isn't going to stop.
Many people enjoy smoking, many people are addicted to smoking and ALL of those people know the
risk. I do think that it should be illegal to smoke in a confined space with a child, however,
smoking outdoors and away from them, in their sight, is perfectly fine. It's up to the parents to
educate their children not to smoke.
People need to quit trying to make things illegal. If you feel strongly about something, it's your
own responsibility to educate yourself and your children and family about the dangers of the
activity. The government does right by staying out of certain issues. |

Why should we prosecute somebody for something that is perfectly legal if anything should be done
its that they should bane smoking altogether and stop making them |
