What have we got to lose, considering our president cant run the country.
I actually think if we weakened the federal gov't like we should, the president would be an
expendable position. A small congress could handle what few issues would need settling at the
federal level. |

You guys have no idea how hard being the president really is. |

This country would be a zoo without the government we have. |

Too often, people see the figurehead (President, Prime Minister) as being "The Government."
However, one person cannot do all the damage (or occasional good) alone. In the US, the President
cannot go very far without a complicit Congress. The British Prime Minister cannot go very far
without willing MPs.
The US Constitution was written to establish 3 co-equal branches of government. It is really only
in the last 75 years that the Legislative branch has delegated their Constitutional powers and
responsibilities to the Executive branch either through legislation or through non-action.
The President has a lot of power but that power is supposed to be checked by Congress and the
Courts. When Congress doesn't do its job, why are we blaming the President? When Congress does do
its job, why are we blaming the President? Because he is the figurehead we can point to rather than
an amorphous body of 435 men and women called Congress. |

We would have to revamp the entire government if we had no president. All of the checks and balances
would have to be slightly realigned. All in all we could, but I'd rather just keep a president. |

We need someone in charge to run the country properly as if we didn't it would turn into chaos! |

Human beings thrive on authority, we need someone telling us what to do. It has happened throughout
history. Humans need instructions, a helping hand, someone that can guide them. There must always be
a hierarchy, meaning government is especially important. Mind you looking back at the past 8 years
of American politics you might have been better off without a president altogether. |
