You Should Understand Evolution Before You Deny It.
As a general common sense rule you really shouldn't get into a debate against Evolution unless you have some basic understanding of the process of Evolution. Otherwise, you make false statements and use worn out phrases that creationist have used for years to run-down evolution. For the most part creationist deny evolution because it contradicts what they believe, so they choose not to even begin to understand evolution.

I agree but I find it pretty unlikely that anyone who takes the time to time to gather even a layman’s understanding of current evolutionary theory would seriously argue against evolution.

That's a good point. There's no point in disbelieving in something you have no idea how it works. It's like saying that crisps taste rubbish if you've never tasted one.

Yeah, some people are. However, they seem to be against it for no good reason.

Some people don't bother to learn about it because they're too busy telling everybody that it's a lie, and that the Bible proves everything.

The Creinist Creationists fall into two categories:

(1) The Misinformed

(2) The Disinformers

The Misinformed are the ignorant who don't seek out the facts by themselves. They are brainwashed into believing lies told to them by their leaders and repeat it without evaluating whether or not it is true.

The Disinformers are worse. They are the religious leaders who often do know the truth about evolution (though more are ignorant than liars) and spread the lies to keep the religious under their thumb for reasons of money, power and sex.

Those against evolution aren't concerned for the contents of people's "souls". They're concerned for the contents of people's wallets and pants.

I think this is right. To be able to argue for or against - :) - anything, you must have a basic (at least!) understanding of it.

I completely agree, most anti-evolution arguments are based on pure speculation as to what it is. It's a complex scientific theory, not something you can just guess at. Until these creationists realise this its pointless to enter into debate with them.

The problem is, it isn't based on speculation, it's really based on lies. Most of the so-called "professional creationists" know full well they're full of it, they just think that "lying for the Lord" is an acceptable method of gaining followers.

I'd settle for people having any clue what they're talking about before they demand that it must be wrong because it disagrees with ancient mythology. There was a debate years ago where someone summed up most of the creationist arguments: "I do not know what an evolution is but I'm sure it has to be wrong".

Although i agree with the overwhelming evidence that evolution has in its favor, i have some questions that i have not had adequately answered. The big question is time. I cannot see how such huge changes in an organism could have happened in the amount of time that it is proposed to have happened. To make even some of the most minor physical changes in an organism via natural selection it takes thousands of years. To achieve a human being with all of our mental and physical abilities and characteristics, i just don't see how there is time.

You can not think in terms of thousands of years when you talk about earth history and the history of life, no more than you can talk about distances in the cosmos as miles. You have to think in terms of millions and billions of years. This scale of time is almost inconceivable to humans, because most people don't even live for 100 years. In terms of modern humans, we have only been here for about 200,000 years, a mere speck on a time-line that goes back to 4.5 billion years. So we are still a very primitive species that is only beginning to scratch the surface of discovery and what we can do with technology.

Actually, I believe people should have more than just a basic understanding of the model before debating on the topic, whether the person is against it or not.

Just because we disagree with evolution doesn't mean we didn't study it.

You should learn and understand Creationism before you deny it.
