This Site Needs Live Debate
Prescheduled, two-person debates following standard rules of debating. Viewers could have a shout box off to the side.

It would really separate the men from the boys...

Lovely. It would be an amazing thing. Live debate. Biting each other's heads off. YAY!

That would be very interesting and exciting, it should allow you to post on one debate more than once cause you just cant say "Cheese is better" then let someone walk all over you, you have to keep fighting!

I agree. One on One would make it so much easier to communicate.

This is a very good idea and it would certainly liven up the site quite a bit. More importantly, however, it would help control debates a little more, by essentially introducing a time frame. As it is now, there is the potential for the most contentious debates to drag on forever, with no real conclusion of any kind, mainly because both sides can simply continue doing Google searches and looking up Wikipedia articles. A live debate would make this impossible, as time would become an important factor. If one side is able to respond quickly to all claims and can counter all arguments, while the other side spends hours trying to muster a comeback, a clear winner will emerge. This would mean that debaters would have less time to rely on outside sources and they would instead have to base most of their contributions on what they already know.

Even then resources could be quickly gathered. Your method would clearly tax the performance of the server of this site with several live chat type debates in real time actively going on. A major overhead and they may not have the resources to do it. it would take careful planning it would seem. This site lags a bit every now and then, so i could imagine hundreds of chat sessions.

Or at least one topic of the day that some moderators choose based on recent things in the news
something to make more people take part in the same debate or something

Yeh that would be call and have more than one comment box as well so you can counter argument etc but it would be harder to fun

I would love that so much!! That was what i was looking for when I went looking for a debate site. It is all right if we do not have judges, and I'm sure people would volunteer to be judges also.

Totally. It would be beastly.

The problem with this site is there is no judge. A majority of people siding on a debate does not mean the debate wins. A true debate would have a point system and there would be clear winners.

I like the idea, but i think that it would need to be structured, and i don't see that kind of support coming from this site.

How long would you get to respond? Could I have my own entrance music?

Bring it on.

I'm thinking four 5-minute segments: argument, rebuttal, counterargument, rebuttal.

Yeah, I agree. I'd love the idea of one-on-one debate, provided I was allowed time to form a response.

Provided I was allowed time to form a response? What does that mean. Time in location where you are?

It would be nice...but for now I go to other debate sites for that so I'm satisfied with my options.

Then this we will be annoyed by the 10 year old that just says "no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong.no you wrong. No your wrong." Think about it. They would have to develop some sort of voting boot system to get rid of annoying people.
