| There Should Be A Law Against People Lying About Their Age And Having Sex. |
| I have a friend who has a 19 year old son, who got caught in the back seat of his car with a girl who told him she was 18. The police officer checked her I.D. And she was 16. My friends son got arrested, and will now have the label of sex offender for the rest of his life. I'm not condoning the kids actions but this girl wrecked his life with her lie. She should be punished for lying as well. |

It's only 3 years. I thought there was a 4 year law....... I remember awhile ago someone i knew was
12 and lied to 19 year old and said she was 18, i'm not sure what they did but it was at least 2nd
base(omgz). So it wasn't his fault, she really looked 18. |

I agree, and you have made a very clearly stated reason why.
Good job. |

I completely agree, too many young men are falling foul of rape laws when they have been lied to. |

In America we have the wherewithal to bring a minor to trial as an adult, if the court deems through
a separate hearing that the minor understands his or her actions. It seems to me, that in situations
like you mention it should be allowed and feasible to have a hearing to determine whether she was
capable of giving consent, since the idea of statutory rape is premised on the idea of being too
young to give consent. Also many states have laws which deal with people who are close in age but
one is just over and one is just under the age of consent, and typically in that scenario the
sentences are greatly reduced. |

It's one thing I've never understood about the "no sex till 18 law" - surely when a person legally
can have sex is once they have sexually matured.
The girl was 16 - she was sexually mature, so he really shouldn't be branded a sex offender. In the
UK his actions would have been perfectly legal.
Actually I'm pretty sure she could be had for "conspiracy to commit a crime"
If the situation were reversed i can guarantee there would have been a very different outcome. |

This is completely unfair to your friend's son. If the person who is an adult actually asks the
individual with whom they intend to have sexual intercourse to confirm their age, then the onus is
on the latter to tell the truth. By being proactive about this and inquiring about the girl's age,
your friend's son acted in a relatively reasonable manner, considering the circumstances. What would
have been unreasonable to expect him to ask the girl to produce photo ID.
I don't think that the girl should be punished for lying about her age, but neither should the boy,
for believing what she said. I also cannot help but wonder how authorities would have reacted if the
genders had been switched, and if a 19 year old girl had "seduced" a 16 year old boy. I think that
part of the problem is that 16 year old girls are somehow still seen as innocent, while boys who are
only slightly older are perceived as nasty, irresponsible, sex-driven creatures. As such, they are
automatically seen as the culprit when an encounter such as the one described in this debate goes
wrong. |

She said she was 18 its her fault not the sons. She should be punished because she lied about her
legal status. If she had gone to vote and said she was 18 and brought a fake ID she would get caught
and be put in jail its not the voting systems fault if she lied. |
