If by Pro-Anorexia you mean websites that are for anorexics to help recover, I'm all for it.

If you mean websites that are like "Hey, it's great to starve yourself! You should too!" then I change my vote to against.

Well, I suppose if it is like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, then yes. I guess that if anorexic people got together to support each other, then that could be very beneficial and morale-raising indeed. I also agree that there is a lot of misconception about pro-anorexic websites (probably because the name is somewhat of a misnomer as it makes it sound like being anorexic is an okay lifestyle).

Pro-anorexia is a disease which causes eating disorders to people. Around the world and mainly in the UK this disease is spreading a lot. There are some websites that deal with matters like this and may be they can be helpful for those who are suffering from diseases like this. These websites contain varieties of topics related to this which enables all its viewers to understand about this disease and they can even counter interact with each other. A website is such a link which connects people from one side of the world to the other. It may happen that on one part of the world someone has got a way to get rid of this problem and he or she wants to share that with the help of websites and this may in turn help someone on the other side of the world.

I think there is a lot of misconception over pro-anorexia websites.

Eating disorders have been in the spotlight a lot recently because of the size zero models and clothing ranges around. There is a lot of pressure on people to be (not just healthy) but thin and this is backed up by the media images we see.

Anorexia is not something people are cured of. You can (and will) be 'in recovery' for your whole life, with the constant possibility that you can become seriously ill again at any time.

What people don't realise is that Pro-Anorexia websites are a great place for people with the disorder (and other eating disorders) to discuss the illness, how it affects them and make friends who understand.

Many people suffering become isolated and this allows them to reach out and feel connected with people. Yes they may give diet tips but most are screened and more responsible than just plain starving yourself. They advise people on what is completely dangerous to do and offer guidelines and support.

Many young people are also at risk of suicide and they often post a message if they feel tempted or attempt to take their own life. Nearly all pro-anorexia sites require memberships and log IP addresses so that the authorities can be alerted in such an event. Without these sites no one may ever know.

For those who have been diagnosed they can speak to people who understand them and their motivations without being criticised or patronised. They can just post what they feel and get advice from people who have gone through the same.

On many websites you will also find that regular members can weed out the 'wannabes' quite quickly. Going on crash diets is not what anorexia is about.

Pro-anorexia is not about being pro eating disorder, but about being positive about living with the disease. Anorexia is not a lifestyle choice but a real illness. Some groups are more responsible than others but why should we deny people a voice and support when they need it.

Pro-anorexia is also a relatively new term and is used in a variety of different ways. I think we should promote the support side and show people without the disease how hard it must be.

Their is something wrong with pro-anorexia websites. If your child had a eating disorder wouldn't you want them to find help instead. Many people do suffer this problem and we dont want to make it worse. Anorexia can lead to stringy hair and hair loss not to mention the loss of self esteem. It cuases other health problems such as loss in bone density and blood loss. It also leads to suiside. As you can see pro-anerexia websites just renforce this behaveyour.

Pro-anorexia sites are not only vomit-inducingly disgusting but encourage those with extremely unhealthy behavior to keep it up as well as encouraging girls with low self-esteem to become anorexic.

Uh... You contradicted yourself in your first sentence. Anorexia is a deadly disease. Pro-ana sites encourage girls to continue harming themselves and gives them tips on how to hide it and how to avoid getting help. There is EVERYTHING wrong with them.

Pro anorexia and anorexia is bad. Everyone is beautiful the way they are and they shouldn't worry about how other ppl think about them. They should be happy with how they feel.

You have made a mistake in the defining, they do discuss their illness, as in
who has lost the most weight and who is skinniest.

Pro-anorexia is the idea that starving yourself is a lifestyle, not an illness. That is definitely wrong.

Pro-anorexia websites often refer to anorexia as a "lifestyle" rather than an illness. They encourage a potentially fatal choice.

I agree that some of the websites out there are supportive, but the term "pro-ana" has a bad rep, and I think that if the supportive sites out there still want to exist, they should change their names completely and have nothing about pro-ana and then a disclaimer like they have now. All of the sites that are really "pro-ana" for the reason the name suggests should be shut down immediately, no questions asked.
