The Words "Suffragette," "Feminist," "Feminism," "Women's Movement" Are Good, Positive Words That Evoke Respect And Appreciation For Their Good Work As Activists In The 20th Century
The 20th Century was the Women's Century because many women of different decades put their career, and sometimes, their lives, on the line to acquire legal and personal rights not just for themselves, but for all women of their decade plus ALL WOMEN WITH DREAMS IN THE 20TH CENTURY AND NOW IN THE 21ST CENTURY. I was one who supported those issues from 1960 to the present. Hillary Clinton was another and she is still doing so by her Candidacy for Presidents. White men won't support her because they use the new "F-word": Feminism.

At age 53, I have seen light years of progress for women in my life.
When I was young, childless women were pitied, career women were considered castrating bitches, a woman HAD to have a husband, girls did not participate in sports, “men never made passes at lasses with glasses,” and female politician were virtually unheard of.
Due to some of the extremes of the 1970s feminist movement, there is now a backlash against women’s rights, lead, it breaks my heart to admit, by young women, plus conservative male windbags who decry “femi-Nazis.”
As for the gains of the suffragists, the women’s vote has had a profound influence on our social policies.
Would we like to return to when blacks faced segregation and gays were in the closet? I wish that young women who question the gains of the women’s movement could spend just one day in 1955 suburban America.

Being a feminist and a Women's rights activists are not the same thing. If you want men and women to have equal pay, you are a women's rights activist, but those people who protested the Miss America Pageant in 1968 by "replacing" her with a pig and burning bras, those were feminists.

No.

I am not into that women's rebellion stuff. Never have been.

I think a lot of men love women, care about them.
Some guys will protect you.

I think a lot of women are just man-haters.
That's just wrong.
It is not equal or fair.

I certainly wouldn't say the suffragettes are worthy of respect. Suffragists yes, but not suffragettes who did more to hinder women's progress towards equality through their militant irrational activities.

The modern feminist movement has lost the plot and now only evolves around 2 basic ideas. 1) patriarchal society that men are aggressive towards women and should automatically be deemed guilty of rape until they can prove their innocence. 2) a feminist is a strong woman who is in control of what she wants. THATS IT. Both are completely flawed. 1) feminist claim bogus rape allegations are 2% when most studies show these rape allegations to be between 20-41%, this partly explains why conviction rates are so low because the allegation were bogus in the first place, 2) a strong woman, very sad that feminists regard any woman who has no sense of morality yet does whatever she wants both career wise, life wise and sex wise....she is a positive role model....women who fall into these categories include porn stars...yet at the same time, feminists are anti-pornography. Contradictory or what. They are anti-pornography on the basis that it is viewed largely by men who will commit violence and rape as a result of watching it....i.e back to (1) again...the feminist obsession with rape. Yawn. Actually I've changed my mind, i think the feminist ideology evolves around one thing ...their punani.

Those words don't evoke respect and absolutely shouldn't. I do think women should be given fair treatment, however, what is going on in modern times is somewhat ridiculous.

Back in the good old days, women stayed home and cooked, raised children, did that kind of stuff while the men worked and fought in wars. This worked great because each gender did what they are naturally meant to do. Women are physically and mentally built to be better parents than men, while men's physical and mental nature well equips them for hard labour and fighting.

Now everything is all mismatched. Women want a hand in everything, but they can't pick up the slack required to have all that good stuff. You want to benefits, but you don't want the work that goes with it. I see standards at companies being lowered to accommodate for the average woman who is less physically strong than the average man, women who abuse systems and unions in order to gain more than they are able to work for.

You want the good but don't want the bad. And also, do you still want men to hold doors open for you? Do you still want the "never hit a girl" rule to remain intact? Well let me say, if you want equality, then those "rules" need to go as well.

The maker of this debate is living a sweet naive lie that i wish were true. Unfortunately while those words are extremely positive they don't usually evoke feelings of respect from men in general in the public. I know there are probably many cases where this isn't true so that is why I say in general. Generally the reaction from most men is "Here we go again" I wish it was otherwise but it's true. I'm a dude I should know about this reaction i see it everyday

You are probably right that these words should evoke respect and appreciation, but I don't think they do. Most people lack historical awareness. They take the status quo for granted and aren't aware of all the struggles that had to be fought historically to make the world what it is today.

Not just women, but poor people and black people have also been disenfranchised in the past. Few people today are aware of the struggles for democracy or workers' rights or women's rights. In fact, if they think about it at all, they probably think the whole idea of those struggles is somewhat distasteful.

For most people today, the terms feminist and feminism do not have a positive connotation. They evoke, instead, an image of a bitter man-hating harridan. I'm not saying that's the way it should be. That's just the way it is.
