The Way To Go Down In History As A Hero Is Not To Try To
The way to go down in history as a hero, is to not try to.;-) those who history deems as the heroes are just folks who do their duty and do their best in what they believe in. Heroes are accidental ;-)

Everyone writing on the other side with comments is squeing this debate.
I agree true heroes just do what they know is right, not for glory.
One of my favorite heroes is a missionary that I met, who helped people behind the iron curtain, it wa illegal in that country to even talk about Jesus, and he was often beaten with 40 lashes. When I met him just before he died, he had scars from his neck to even the bottoms of his feet. And even I don't remember his name. But that guy was a real hero.
Fireman, police....hospice people, there are so many unsung heroes.

Missionaries are among my heroes, but the list is so long, there would not be room in this forum.....

Again, thank you so much for sharing,

Most Cordially,

Did odysseus go to troy to defend his country from another country that wasn't even attacking or the gain fame? How about achilles? The true heroes are the police who protect you and don't seek the fame which they probably wont get and the teachers who sacrifice great paying careers to teach ingreats on how to live a successful and happy life.

And yes i probably spelled ingreats wrong.

There's only one type of heroes and that is knowing right from wrong and you have to try hard at that

These days we consider sport stars as heroes. My feeling is that very few real heroes get much mention in the history books.

 Good point, Finsch.

However, not ALLof us look to Entertainment or Sports stars for heroes or someone to look up to or something to live up to.

My heroes are persons in History, before the TV, computer, or movie stars.

1. Jesus Christ,
2. Martin Luther King,
3. Robert E. Lee,
4. Winston Churchill,
5. Edgar Allan Poe,
6. Mary Carolyn Davies,
7. Ronald Reagan,
8. Thomas Jefferson,
9. Elizabeth 1st,
10. My late Father who died in 1997,
11. My late brother who died in 1995,
12. Paul the Apostle author of the majority of the New Testament,
13. Abraham, the friend of God,
14. Jacob, who wrestled with and had power with God,
15. Achsa, the daughter of Caleb, who would not leave until her Father blessed her and gave her an inheritance among her brothers (Joshua 15: 16 - 19),
16. Yochebel, the mother of Moses, risked her life to hide her baby, and the courage to come up with a plan to ensure his future.
17. Elijah the prophet of God, called down fire out of heaven upon the prophets of Baal; and, was caught up into heaven in a firey-charriot.
18. Daniel the prophet of God, would not bow before the pagan image even though it cost him being cast into a den of hungry lions.
And, although he served under kings and rulers, he was always humble, and had unwavering faith in God, his whole life: unlike most heroes, Daniel had a clean and impeccable record: he always lived his beliefs without fault, without scandal.......he is one of my favorite heroes of all time.
(My son is named after this man:-)

Not always true. I know its kind of bland that i'm bringing a movie into a debate, but have you ever seen the movie Troy. The one who goes down in history as a hero is the one who fought so fiercely, not for duty honor or country, but for his own glory, and so his name will live on through history. He did what he did so he would be remembered. I know that there are many people who lived throughout history that did what they did so there names would be highlighted in our history books.

I would agree up until about 1960. It was around that time the the media realized that they could create heroes and it didn't take long for people to figure out how to take advantage of the media's power.

It sure would be cool if heroes had to have integrity again. I think that is why so many of the real ones go unsung.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Cons_Lies.

But none of my heroes are modern heroes not media or entertainment, except Ronald Reagan, and he did not become a hero from his movie star days in my eyes: wasn't until I wrote him a personal letter and he wrote me back, signed with his own ink-pen, in his own writing, I still have that letter with the White House stationery, and postage stamp-expired stamp on it, that he became a hero. Reagan was very impressed with my letter, and said so, and why, and what he intended to do about my......comment.......;-)
And he did TRY. Other than him, all my heroes are historical except my father and brother.
