The United States, the UK and other western countries are in no position to tell the Japanese to
stop killing dolphins. Western activists and celebrities looking for media attention should find
something else to occupy themselves with, instead of trying to force countries and cultures that
they know little or nothing about to change their ways, simply because they find certain practices
to be disturbing.
Dolphins are not simply killed for the thrill of it, but are consumed by locals at home, served in
restaurants and sold in Japanese supermarkets. In fact, some people in Japan prefer dolphins to
other meats, since they are often less expensive to buy in many grocery stores than beef. Western
protesters often counter by talking about the brutality surrounding the killing of dolphins. But is
this really more brutal than slaughtering cows, which may also be seen as lovable, docile creatures? |

In most places, dolphins aren't really an endangered species so I don't see why the Japanese
shouldn't kill them for food. How is it different from us killing cows and pigs for food?
Also, dolphins aren't really as lovable as they appear to be. There's more to dolphin culture than
just jumping out of swimming pools to grab a fish and jumping through hoops. There's a whole dark
side to dolphins that you hardly ever see on TV. Dolphins are some of the most sinister creatures on
this planet. We're lucky they're not more advanced or they would probably try and kill us or make us
their slaves. |
