After the Holocaust with Hitler we had promised the world that we would never again allow another
Genocide happen...and it is and we need to keep our promise and take action in this Genocide. |

It is inhumane for the 'Free World" to ignore Dafur, the children in the coltan mines of the Congo,
the 'child soldiers', the night children', the inhumane treatment of women in Saudi Arabia, the
kidnapping and sexual slavery of women, the kidnapping of children and forcing them to work or be
sold to pedophiles, the hungry rural people around the world, and other people of the world where
there is trauma in the lives of people.
I am an American.
The United States and United Kingdom (England of course) should lead the way and the European Union
should join with us to help other human beings in the world. The "free world' has ignored African
nations far too long. While some countries of Africa have done ok economically, most still need
some kind of help for the people.
After World War II, the United States people gave millions and more of our tax dollars to rebuild
Europe, Japan and other areas which were destroyed during the wars of Germany's Hitler, Italy's
Mussolini and Japan's Emperor Hirohito. Our individual and corporate taxes continued to be used for
countries all over the world. As a high school student in the 1950's, the matter of AMERICAN
FOREIGN AID ACROSS THE WORLD. At that time we felt that too much of our taxes were being used to
build up other nations rather than our own country's infrastructure.
Now, I hope that students in high schools are saying that America should stop spending
billions/trillions of our dollars for war after war, and help humanity around the world. If they
do, maybe the 21st century will become "The Human Century" instead of the "Century of War" that the
20th century was (WWI, WWII, Korea, VietNam, Iraq, and a few smaller wars). The young people under
age 30 in America, England and all of Europe are the people who can make sure that "the Free World"
helps humanity around the world where there is suffering. They will decide and they will have the
power to change the world to be a better place with less suffering. If only they would recognize
their power and use it NOW.
And, all of us who enjoy a good life should be willing to pay the price in taxes to help the
suffering. |

I believe we should. But not now, when the time is right and we are financially ready. |

As I understand it, all states have an obligation under the UN charter to intervene to prevent
genocide. Not all countries agree that what is occurring in Darfur represents genocide, however. The
United States has been just about the only major country to have used that term. Given that, it's
hard to explain why it has not intervened thus far. |

Yes, along with other capable countries as well, as pythagoras said. There are some things that we
just can't stand by and watch. I don't agree that it is not our responsibility - to simply ignore
human suffering, whether it be in your own country or others, is just wrong and immoral.
The problem is that politicians are too afraid to get involved in such a sensitive and difficult
situation, and probably fail to see what's in it for them! But with enough pressure, they should be
forced into taking action.
Of course the obvious solution is to take military action, but again this approach would further
deter governments from taking action. The other would be a more forceful diplomatic approach,
international pressure and increased directly injected aid. |

Yes they should. Not just the US but other friendly counties too. |

LMAO!!! Hey! Where is the UN on this one? This problem was widely recognized within the UN and
they've done nothing proactive to solve it.
Don't sit and critique the US for it's lack of involvement in Darfur. You should applaud us! We're
following the lead of the UN on this one! |

America has been trying to police the world for ages. The armed forces are so stretched as it is.
Look what it has done to the economy, not only in America but all over. They don't do anything about
China, and their atrocities. What about Zimbabwe. |

AFRICA should step up and fix their own problem. They created it, we didn't! They are enabling it,
we are not. They have allowed it to continue and now it has grown. I expect it will grow out of
control and into the big beautiful cities where the rich folks are all pretending it doesn't
exist.
How much of a tax increase are you willing to go for? Otherwise, where will the money come from to
help them?
I do think they need help but it seems like the government there should ask other countries to help.
Are they asking for help? |

The U.S. Is seen my many countries as trying to 'police the world' which is why we often get a bad
rap. (see also: Iraq, Iran) But now that there really IS a problem, the world expects us to do
something about it. So what's with the double standards? |

A lesson I've learned about the world is that if you want to stay on top you have to work for
yourself. The US and other countries helped all those European countries because they would be able
to, in turn, help the US. A country in Africa is probably never going to be able to return any
favors to the US. Clinton sent troops in to Somalia, and look how that turned out. Not only was it
a failure, but it was looked down upon. You have to pick and choose your battles and ensure you're
doing the best for yourself and your nation.
Morally is that wrong? Of course it is. But that's how it works on planet Earth. |

It's not something that can really be fixed and it's not our responsibility to fix it to begin with.
The causes of the conflict are ethnic and cultural, two things that cannot be solved through the use
of force, because you cannot simply change people's minds with a gun. At best, you can step in and
make sure both sides are following proscribed international laws (something we all know Sudan isn't
doing at the moment) but that will only lessen, not stop, the problem. |
