Yes, but we have to be careful when we rush into the job. Ethanol was a popular option a few years
ago, but then studies came out that showed that ethanol is actually more harmful than gasoline. We
need to pursue the issue of alternative energy cautiously. |

Yes, but it should be done sensitively. At the moment, the alternative energy support in the US is
mostly just another form of pork barrel to reward farmers or politically-connected companies. The
biofuels subsidies, for example, encourage the cultivation of crops which are more
environmentally-damaging than traditional fuels and, through their effects on food prices around the
world, give rise to a great many additional problems.
Unless the alternative energy initiatives are really motivated by a desire to find solutions to
environmental problems, it would probably be better that they didn't exist at all. |
