| The US Society's Norm Is The Sociopath |
| A sociopath is an individual with no empathy or conscience. In other words, it is the guy who says I'll use others or the system to get what I want, but don't do the same to me. In the US today this is becoming the normative moral position. There are more and more individuals using the system and others for entitlements, handouts, and "the take care of me" attitude, but don't ask me to be responsible for anyone else, including myself. |

I think you got your terminology wrong. |

Your definition of sociopath would not stand up to any professional psychologist's review. Plus as
others in the column pointed out a) selfishness is not unique to the US, in fact any government
pointed to as corrupt (and there are many) has an unhealthy helping of this same behavior, and b)
this behavior is not the "norm" among the average people in the country, you make far too bold a
claim. |

Fortunately, we do not live in a society full of sociopaths. Yes, there are those out there who
truly lack any remorse and who do not have the capacity to view others as human beings, but that is
a personality disorder and the behavior you have described applies to people who are self absorbed
and don't take the time to think of others before they act. Most of those people do, in fact,
understand how others are impacted by their actions and some may not care. A sociopath cannot feel
empathy nor have any guilt or remorse for hurting others either verbally or physically. The
majority of sociopaths are not murderers, but can simply appear cold, calculated, manipulative and
they don't have a great history of maintaining any close friendships because of their lack of
ability to feel guilt and act in the appropriate manner when they have hurt someone close to them. |

No, that's called selfishness.
Sociopathy is when individuals or groups enjoy harm being to others, whether causing said harm
themselves or simply observing it. Sociopaths are people with not concern for the lives of others,
even for their right to live; they see others than themselves not as people but as "things". |
