My next door neighbours and many around me are Cubans. I'm in Miami. Before I say my poorly informed
opinion, let me share with you all how ignorant I was. I went to my friend's house one time and sat
at the table with his parents- Cubans, of course. I had nothing to talk about so I asked them "What
do you think about Castro?" Silence. Then, my friend's mother tried to lighten up the scene and I
think she joked about him having long life.
Anyway, I think the embargo is for spite against Castro, a thorn in "America's" side. Besides that,
it's to appease those against him, especially those here. |

The embargo is not only pointless, it's ineffective.
People smuggle cuban cigars into the US all the time |

The whole point behind the Cuban embargo lied behind the dictatorship of Fidel Castro. Now that
Raul is President, and is starting to give Cubans more liberties, it'd make sense to lift the
embargo. Trade with Cuba would be a win-win situation and perhaps end the standoff we've had for 40
years. |

There has never been a serious policy purpose to the embargo. Its purpose was essentially political
: To appease the petty vindictiveness of the extremist right-wing Cubans who fled their native
country and settled in America, many of them in Florida. Since Florida is a political swing state,
and perhaps because these Cubans themselves proved useful in many of the most nefarious activities
of the American secret state (Kennedy assassinations, Watergate), American presidents have always
sought to appease them. Thus, it is very unlikely that the embargo will be lifted any time soon,
although perhaps Obama has enough class to resist the urgings of the right-wing primitives. |

The embargo was imposed because the communists in Cuba stole the ill-gotten gains of wealthy
Americans, taken at the expense of the Cuban people.
When the US makes financial reparations to blacks and native Americans, , then the US will be
in a position to make demands of the Cubans.
Edit:
US citizens and corporations stole Cuban through "legal" means (puppet dictators, stolen from the
previous Spanish occupation). Castro and the communists took back what was stolen from Cuba, and
the US falsely claims is belongs to the US.
Don't you read anything other than USA Today and the FAUX Noise website?

I'm not really for or against this but, i think that as long as Cuba is allied with Russia, and is
therefore an extension, the embargo will not cease to exist. As for its effectiveness the same holds
true for all things illegal, people are going to be able to buy them so why are they illegal? It's
to limit the exposure to the illegal items.
There you go, just my opinion. |
