| The US Medical System Is A Joke! |
| I am appalled by the medical care system in America. Pres Clinton tried to change the way our medical welfare worked and he somewhat excelled. However, more needs to be done about this ever growing problem. Too many people are granted medical welfare for no real reason and it is extremely abused and needs to be changed! People on welfare need to get a job and quit relying on the employed to take care of their sorry butts! |

It's shameful that the US has failed to provide universal health care to its citizens. We pay 15% of
our GDP (much more than most other developed countries) for a system dominated by profit, in which
there are incentives to discriminate against the vulnerable and to deny treatment wherever possible. |

I think another things that isn't really discussed is the fact that some people are sue-happy. If
something goes wrong, they will sue the doctor, causing a malpractice. The doctors malpractice
insurance goes up, and they have to charge more, and see more people to pay personal bills, and
building up-keep costs. |

People on welfare, do take advantage of the system. This is causing distress in hard working
families. I know someone who is considering quiting his job and living on welfare because it seems
like the people on welfare are being better taken care of by the government. It's just not fair to
have it work out this way. |

This is a very justified topic to be taken to the consideration and I am completely granted to the
point. The US medical system is deeply blemished and needs to be re-adjusted in near future. The
health care system that runs into US is intensely dependant on the private insurance companies which
are not at all sympathetic and reliable as what I feel from the core of my heart. These private
insurance companies are not at all charitable organizations and increasing their profit margins in
the end of the year is being granted to their utmost matter of thinking. Giving the best possible
treatment to their patients is not the main goal for those private insurance firms which are the
chief base of US health care system. But a well-functioning public medicare system can proved to be
much more reliable source which is not granted in US. |

The US medical system is a joke but not for the reasons you mention. You have about 20,000 people
dying each year because they have no access to health care. Considering that you've made so much of
the fact that you lost 3000 people to terrorism in one year, it does seem remarkable that you're
losing far more than that routinely each year without, apparently, being the least bit concerned
about it. I'm sure that health care for everyone in your country could be provided at far less cost
than your various wars and interventions around the world.
You spend more per head on health care than any other country in the world, yet the quality of the
medical services available to your citizens is rated something like 37th in the world. The average
life expectancy in your country is actually declining (currently it is about 40th in the world)
relative to other countries thanks, in part, to your atrocious health care system.
Maybe the free market isn't always the best then, eh? |

I agree that the US health care system is deeply flawed, but not because it is being abused by those
on welfare. A system that relies so heavily on private insurance companies can never provide the
level of care that a well-functioning public medicare system can. Insurance firms are not
charitable organizations--their main goal is to increase their profit margins and not to provide the
best possible treatment for patients/clients.
While universal public health care in Canada has its flaws (such as lengthy wait times for
non-emergency procedures) this system is still far more humane then that available in the US. It
should be the government's priority to provide all citizens with universal access to health care
services, free of charge. Of course, this may mean raising taxes in some cases in order to pay for
such a regime. Yet Americans would probably end up paying less than if they have to continue
writing cheques to insurance companies. They would also be saved from the cumbersome process of
approving medical expenditures or waiting for reimbursements. |

I totally agree with you seoems369. It is so true. Many Americans are lazy or too stupid to get a
job. They lie around and have babies and then can't support them and depend on the government to
take care of them. They get free medical treatment. Then there are those true Americans who get up
every day and go out and practically kill themselves working and they can't go to the doctor when
they get sick because they can't afford the insurance and the government just looks at them and says
"Tough luck". It is a sad situation that is extremely abused. Only those who truly have a documented
medical problem should be allowed to get governmental insurance. You should see the US ERs...it is
sick. They are full of a bunch of drug addicted, fakers who go to the ER for attention. While those
who really need are left to die in the streets. |

Welfare does help people that have jobs too. I am currently using the state's insurance for my kids
and I while I work 3 jobs. So, you cannot generalize everyone on welfare as sitting on their butts.
There are many people who work their butts off and still cannot afford the ridiculous cost of health
insurance through their employers and have to rely on the state to help them. Trust me, having the
state insurance isn't all that great. You end up with crappy doctors and only certain meds are
covered. |
