The US Constitution Places Restraints On Democracy And Is Flawed.
I consider it a flawed document, if universial health care is consider undemocratic and not allowed for in the Constitution then there is something very wrong there. And if the Constitution is so written in stone why are there so many attempts to ban gay marriage by amending the Constitution. Is that hypocritical or okay because it fits certain peoples world view? Mind you what system of governance isn't flawed?

America is controlled by about 50 power hungry lunatics who are seemingly invisible and dictate their future detrimental conniving actions behind the scenes. Democracy is not their interest. Most Americans are sheep and believe otherwise. They are forced fed mindless media bullsh!t and fail to see the truth. They may on rare occasions see the prudent lies that their deceitful government shrouds, but they think to themselves, “I love my great country and I must be grateful of how wonderful it is, so I must be patriotic.”. But that's just the monotonous repetitive unrestrained propaganda slowly eating away and consuming their brain with it's razor sharp ominous fangs. America is not a country ran by the people, its a country ran by a certain group of people, who only wish to control mankind and construct a world government which will intern ruin the very fabric of our civilization and transform the entire global community into a sea of rotting blood and turmoil.

The constitution is not flawed, only it's interpretation is flawed. The constitution doesn't allow for socialized medicine (universal health care)becaused it formed a democratic society, not a socialist state. Socialized medicine doesn't work, it never has, thou many have tried it, and it never will work. Obama wants all employers, even very small companies with a handfull of employees to be forced to provide health ins. For their employees. Big companies (like wal-mart) are all for this proposal, because they know that the mom and pop companies can't afford it and will go out of business. There will be no new start-up companies for this same reason. If we had had socialized medicine there may have never been a micro-soft. If this socialized medicine ajenda passes, just watch all the small businesses that go out of business...family restaurants, car washes, non-chain hardware stores, grocery stores etc. Only the large companies will survive and they will have closer to monopoly status, which will hurt us all in the long run. Obama is trying to kill this country, and so many are blind to what is going on.

Does the Constitution place restraints on Democracy - Yes.

Is the Constitution a flawed document - I would have to argue no. The Constitution includes specific language that allows it to be modified and amended as times change. It is this flexibility that allows "flaws" to be judged by the citizens of the day and corrected as appropriate. This amendment process means that the letter of the law is not "written in stone" but can be modified to keep up with the times.

Your arguments that it is flawed because it does not permit universal health care and gay marriage make no sense. If these items are so critically important to the citizens of the US, propose your amendment. And if you are seriously suggesting that universal health care is of equal importance to ending slavery or giving women the right to vote, God help us all.

Can we keep this argument to one debate? This is not a debate, it's a response to Bug's debate.

Also, the title is ridiculous. The 10th amendment isn't a restriction on democracy, come on...

I would indeed agree it is flawed because hey it is a living document which has been amended many times and is sure to be changed and/or reinterpreted more in the future.

But I don't agree restraints on democracy make it flawed - because the only pure democracy is anarchy. The existence of any law and order at all, whether elected through representatives or imposed by military might, is automatically an infringement on freedoms to some degree.

It's not the amendments that have hurt it. I can't think of a bad one that has not been repealed.

It is the ignoring of it that has gotten us in trouble.

How is it flawed? It's not even being used. It's been ignored for a long time. All these radical changes are an abomination anyways. Confucius say respect tradition. If we did that, there would be more harmony with nature and fellow man. We broke tradition right when Woodrow Wilson signed us onto the BS Federal Reserve and our Gold in Fort Knox was sold abroad when Americans weren't allowed to have their own shares! Then all the temporary programs stayed! Sigh. What tradition is there in arbitrary ways?
What a concept. Care for yourself. I guess me an Genkaku can argue about independence and dependence some more.

LOLOLOLOLOL! THIS This 'flawed' document created a country that within 150 years surpassed EVERY nation that ever existed! The only 'flaw' is that to many have forgotten what is said. Notice I said '150' years. Starting about the time of Woodrow Wilson, the constitution has become more and more ignored. Hence, we have the nightmare we have now in this country.

Funny, without 'government health care', we still managed to become the strongest nation in history. The people who had the courage to settle our West sure did not worry about 'national health care', neither did our Founding Fathers, At the time it was understood that you took care of your own needs. What a concept.

Go, worship your government god.

ummm the founding fathers were Aristocrats who got the best money could buy at the time. Please, stop romanticizing and start addressing this at the average American level. I hate when people talk about the past and their examples are of Aristocrats and royalty. Dude, you are not that. The average American probably would not have gotten coverage to remove a giant tumor out of their head like Ted Kennedy got in a short amount of time. He would have been put on a waiting list or have their insurance dropped because it would cost too much if he was someone like you, an average citizen.
