There should be one Ireland, the north/south division was a relic of history. And Ireland as a
whole should get to decide it's own fate.
Either that or all of Ireland should be part of England but then England should be obligated to give
Ireland's voice in their democracy appropriate representation and weight based on it's size.
The essence of the agreement which brought a semblance of peace to Northern Ireland was that the
will of the majority would be respected. This gave both sides something to hope for. The Loyalists
were content because they currently constitute the majority; the Republicans because they have a
higher birth rate and expected to become the majority sometime in the future. It remains to be seen
whether the Loyalist community will accept the democratic will of the people when that will is to
leave the UK.
You are wrong to say that a majority of Northern Ireland's population at the moment does not want to
be under British rule. That said, as a political entity, Northern Ireland was essentially carved out
artificially in order to generate the right answer to that question.
The truth is that the vast majority of British people would love nothing better than to let Northern
Ireland go. They find the conflict there wearying and ridiculous and generally feel contempt for
both communities. The only reason we are there is the fear that there would be a Bosnia-style
bloodbath if we leave.
Problem with Ireland was there was a 7 to 1 majority, and the only way the republicans could get
their voice heard was with a loud bang, not that I condone fireworks, if you get my drift? However,
they now have a strong voice in the English Parliament, and the Irish like the Jews have colonised
the whole of the world. Thank the good Shepherd the bangs have now all gone up in smoke. Oranges and
Lemnos said the bells of Saint Clements. Anchor this agreement!!
Then what will change apart from the other half being pissed off. If you said that to a catholic
you will be bought a drink. Say that to a protestant and you will get a broken nose. The majority
want British rule.
Sure but only if Ireland is developed enough to support itself and if its not then it would just be
another country asking for aid from the us and England.
