It seems likely to me (based on other countries and other social shifts) that the main driving force
behind universal suffrage in 1921 was the work done by women in WW1 which proved they could
contribute to society like men in many ways. Though it was important that the message was spread and
the issue raised it is correctly stated by chaew that the Suffragists did this. Whilst I suspect the
Suffragettes also raised awareness and showed how serious the women were, by continuing their
campaign for any length of time they did far more harm than good. |
