The Proper Way To Dispose Of A Beloved Pet Is To Feed It To The Cat.
When a fish or a pet rodent dies this could be a way of naturally disposing of the body. Are you for this method or against it? I would like to know. I was against it and buried our gerbil and flushed the dead fish down the toilet. A kid asked me why I didn't feed them to my cats. I had never thought of it. How do you feel about it?

Are you serious? Who would agree with that. Feeding your dead animal to the cat? Yeah how generous are you.

Not when your parrot dies of bacterial infection, the best place for it is straight in the Aga.

What if the fish or rodent died of a disease or something?? I mean, we don't eat animals that died naturally, maybe its no good for animals either.

I do know that birds will eat things they find dead and so will wild animals. So I don't know. I am just not taking any chances.

I object not out of morality or repulsion but instead due to the risk to the cat. Whatever killed the smaller pet could actually be contagious or make the cat sick. Furthermore even though cats in the wild and/or sometimes domestic cats will actually eat uncooked meat the truth is they're always taking a risk when they do. Were you planning to cook that fish or mouse before feeding it to the cat? I'd bet not.

Finally, if your dead beloved pet was a Great Dane then it would take your cat quite a while to dispose of the evidence.

See that is what i was thinking. I don't know what exactly Tribbles the Gerbil died of. So why feed it to my cats? They would probably not eat it anyway, but hide it in the couch or something. And as far as the fish, I suspect Dusty kitty may have indeed been messing with it and contributed to it's death, but I can't be sure. I also didn't want them getting the idea that it was okay to eat the fish out of the tank.
