The new X-Files film was really pretty mediocre and not all that believable. The only thing that I
liked about it was how both Mulder and Scully kept their original characters, even though the series
ended some six years ago. Both were just as bland, washed out and unexcited as they were on
television years before. I actually liked them that way then, and it was good to see them just as
emotionless now.
My problem with "I Want to Believe" was that it really did a rather poor job of connecting and
explaining various turns in the plot. As such, the movie came across as disjointed and forced at
times. It seemed just as desperate and hacked as the film's ill-chosen title. When connections were
made between different characters and stories, they were brought together in a clumsy, rushed
manner. I can't see this film becoming a real box office hit, especially as people start to read or
hear the negative reviews. Just see Dark Knight instead, if you must choose between the two. |
