This sarcastic “proof” is about the same kind of ridiculousness you see coming from creationists
and "IDers" all the time. The only difference is, they're actually serious. |

Evolution takes 10,000 years to cause minor change. The greatest change in human physiology has
come in the last 150 years, so it's not evolution. The real cause of change in the NBA is down to
three things:
1. Better medical care. The near-end of diseases like polio and chicken pox, among others, plus
treatment, cure and prevention of once fatal ailments means better health and longer lifespans in
people.
2. Better diet and training. We understand scientifically what will help people grow healthier and
stronger, as well as what helps people to get stronger naturally.
3. Improved medicine and diet have also caused earlier puberty and growth. Around 1900, puberty
was usually at age 14-16. Now it's around age 11-13.
4. A larger playing pool. The US is no longer the pre-eminent basketball playing country. The NBA
has drawn on the talent of other countries to where at least a quarter, up to half, of players now
are foreigners. A larger pool means tall foreigners instead of short Americans.
Would the NBA rather have Kurt Rambis or Yao Ming? Twenty years ago, the answer would have been
different until the yanks started having their collective a$$es handed back to them on a platter at
the world championships and olympics. Now the US can't even beat teams like Argentina, Spain or
Lithuania. |
