The Moon Landings Really Happened
If you read this topic and thought it was a stupid idea, then good for you. Unfortunately I have run into several people who claim that the moon landings never happened. These particular people couldn't present any reasonable arguments for why they thought the landings never happened, but perhaps someone here can.

Of course they did! Noone was sceptic at the time, why would they go to all that trouble. Besides, evidence saying that it didn't happen is much less convincing to that which says it did.

I believe, yes, we did land on the Moon...But not on that very first time. There's a few interesting points leading the the possibility that that might've been staged -- After all, we were in a pretty tense situation, what with the rush to be in space first..However, yes, we have been to the Moon, despite whatever happened that day.

There is something in some people, I don't know what it is, that makes them incapable of comprehending humankind's greatest feats. Thus we get "The pyramids were made by aliens", "RADAR was stolen from the Roswell UFO", and "The moon landings were faked."

The moon landings were real. The whole world watched it happen. Physical witnesses watched the astronauts enter the rocket and watched the rocket launch. Worldwide live TV coverage. Telescopes all over the world tracked the rocket and the LOM. Physical objects were left on the moon, and lunar rocks and dust brought back. The back side (NOT dark) of the moon was photographed. Don't know if you still can, but for a while there you could actually buy tiny chunks of moon rock... Which are chemically dissimilar to rocks on Earth.

Apollo astronauts died testing equipment... Seems unnecessary if you're faking things.

Not one of tens of thousands of NASA employees has ever supported the fakery theories.

NASA worked in conjunction with several other agencies, institutions, and universities to design and build equipment and experiments... So all these companies and schools would have had to be in on it, increasing the potential leak factor to perhaps 50,000. Yet no person involved has "spoken up".

Apollo cost 25 billion in '60s dollars... The film "Armageddon" cost 140 million in '90s dollars.

There is something frighteningly perverse in people who refuse to accept humankind's greatest achievements. This was one of the U.S.A.'s shining moments, and one of humanity's. I suspect you all don't want to believe it simply because you don't have enough imagination to conceive of it happening... And if you can't imagine it. It can't have been real.

Get over yourselves. There ARE smarter, more capable people than you, and they build pyramids and launch rockets while you do nothing but sit there and whine.

Of course they did...they happened multiple times... And all we got was rocks sadly...

Yeah they did! And the Americans were first to do it, all the people that are jealous such as the Russians only say it didn't happen because they wanted to do it first!

It is simply childish to argue that the Moonlanding was faked. Fair enough the Americans and Russians were in competition against each other in the so called space race, but I doubt that an event as important to science as this could have been a hoax. People should have more faith in science!

I really don't think it was faked. It wouldn't be a very good idea to fake it, because they must have known that at some point we would return to the moon - think of how they would look if they didn't find any thing left up there. Anyway, there is one piece of evidence that cant be denied and proves that they did go up there. That is that they left mirrors there so that scientists could accurately measure the distance the moon was moving away from us each year. That is something the conspiracy theorists just forgot to mention no doubt....

Ask anyone who saw it at the time? How the hell would they know any better?

Russia was sending all kinds of things into space and so was the U.S...however the Russian space program was successful with sending sputnik up in 1957 in 1958 U.S sent up Explorer which failed. They actually failed at numerous attempts to send anything up. This was during the Cold War and Nixon was feeling the pressure from the U.Ks space program being so succesful. And all of a suddenly with the Apollo mission they were able to send a rocket carrying human life into space and land on the moon? Theres so many things disproving this, firstly the photos provided by NASA. Theres one in particular I'm referring to, its of the moons surface the patterns and crevices are similar to ones that have been taken of area 51,and the rocks collected were soil samples similar to ones collected just outside area 51,a place where no civilian has gone, theres unexplainable shadows and reflections, the video cameras were placed in the suites of the astronauts and the footage shown was too still, meaning if the astronauts were bouncing around like the video shows why is the footage so still, theres missing data as well.....i think its a little fishy.

Okay, here we go. The shuttle that supposedly lifted off Cape Canaveral and off to the moon has about the same level of A.I. As a calculator today. And that was enough to take and bring back seven humans from the moon?

Let's look at footage from the supposed moon landing. First why aren't the shadows in uniform direction? If there's only one source of light - the Sun - then there should be only one direction. Secondly, why is the flag of the U.S. Fluttering on a satellite that has no atmosphere? No atmosphere means no wind.

And now, why haven't we ever returned to the Moon? Our technology has advanced exponentially, we sure have the money to burn (that much has been proven by the war in Iraq), and NASA definitely has the resources to pull it off. So why haven't we? Because we never did go there.

So, why would the Moon landings be faked? Look at the time period. At the heat of the Cold War (no pun intended), the U.S. And the U.S.S.R. Were in an everything race. They were in a "my freaking horse is bigger than yours" on a global scale. Going to the Moon would be the ultimate show of power for the US.

As for the Moon rock, seeing as we can't be 100% sure what is or isn't Moon rock, then how do we know it wasn't engineered in a laboratory and given certain characteristics that aren't found in rocks on Earth? It certainly wouldn't be hard.

I guess in the end it's all up to the individual to believe whether or not we went to the Moon. Of course it's the more romantic option to believe all the wonderful stories about Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin and all those brave men and women. But for the critical, analytical mind, it's clear that there are significant holes in the story. Like StBalders said, the only way you'd know for sure is if you were Neil or Buzz. Or the NASA guy getting paid $22.50 an hour to operate the lighting in a Nevada desert that's supposed to be the surface of the Moon.

"The shuttle that supposedly lifted off Cape Canaveral and off to the moon has about the same level of A.I. As a calculator today. And that was enough to take and bring back seven humans from the moon?" -- It wasn't a Shuttle. It was a Saturn rocket. Most of the calculations were completed beforehand. In-mission calculations are handled by Mission Control. Other than course correction and timing things, the astronauts didn't have that much to calculate.

"First why aren't the shadows in uniform direction?" -- Shadows never are. This is a law of perspective. For the shadows of 2 or more objects to be uniform, the objects would have to be on a line with the light source. The moon's horizon, nearer than Earth's, makes the slight differences more obvious. You can prove this yourself with 2 fingers, a wall, and a light bulb.

"Secondly, why is the flag of the U.S. Fluttering on a satellite that has no atmosphere?" -- Because the government felt the flag would look silly drooping, so they ran a stiff wire along the top of the flag to make it wave. The "fluttering" was caused by whacking the wire.

"I guess in the end it's all up to the individual to believe whether or not we went to the Moon." -- No. That's lazy. It's up to the individual to research. That intellectual laziness is what makes people believe religion, racism, and 419 scams.

They were faked. See this article elsewhere on the site for a presentation of arguments.

Thanks for the link. When I was doing some research for this online, I came across a lot of those objections to the photographs and pictures. I don't know enough about photography to refute them, however. I will say that the "C" that everyone sees in the rock just looks like a shadow to me, but I can see how people could see that.
What about the overwhelming physical evidence? I have a clip from NASA's website (they might be biased, but the evidence is there nonetheless).

The best rebuttal to allegations of a "Moon Hoax," however, is common sense. Evidence that the Apollo program really happened is compelling: A dozen astronauts (laden with cameras) walked on the Moon between 1969 and 1972. Nine of them are still alive and can testify to their experience. They didn't return from the Moon empty-handed, either. Just as Columbus carried a few hundred natives back to Spain as evidence of his trip to the New World, Apollo astronauts brought 841 pounds of Moon rock home to Earth.

Obviously i don't know but if I have to have a stab at it (which I do, 'cos I'm like that) I would guess no. There is certainly many strong reasons for them faking it - winning the space race over the Russians, it's cheaper, very achievable etc.

Basically I just think that because they could fake it, and that it was worth faking it, makes it highly likely that it was faked. You would have to be Neil or Buzz to know for sure though.

Well there are videos, pictures, and a reflector that we placed on the moon - we still use it for radar ranging. The videos and pictures can be disputed, but the physical evidence is overwhelming.
I agree that they could have faked it, but they didn't need to.
