The Mongol Empire was militarily powerful and quite well organized. As such, they could have given
Western Europe a run for its money and stood a good chance of defeating what was still essentially a
primitive and developing part of the world, at least when compared to some Asian civilizations.
The only question in my mind is whether or not the Mongols really even wanted to invade Western
Europe in the first place and go past the Kingdom of Hungary. Most Medievalists and European
historians would probably argue that Batu had no such ambitions. Instead, the successful invasion of
Hungary and Poland simply served as a show of strength to the West, as the Tatars feared that they
might want attack what used to be known as Kievan Rus, a territory that the Mongols controlled and
wished to keep. |

Actually i believe they conquered close to all of Europe. It was my understanding that the only
country Ghengis khan was unsuccessful at controlling on the Asian mainland was china. |

No, the Europeans were too good at running away and hiding. The Mongols did not have enough people
to truly conquer Europe. |
