The Majority Of People Who Claim To Know A Thing Or Two About Wine Actually Know Squat
Later this morning I'm heading to day 2 of a large city wine festival. Day 1 had enormous swarms of people. Conversations overheard suggested about 50% the attendees admittedly know nothing (that's fine, it's honest, they're learning), 40% claim to know alot but say ridiculous things, 5% really do know alot more than they give themselves credit for, and 5% are genuinely experts. My comment is directed at the 40% who think they know alot but don't. Get over yourselves. Even some of the vineyard staff really knew nothing about what they pour.

I love a drop of good quality claret with my roast potatoes, veg, lashings of gavy, and Lamb joint. However, I only go on taste, if I like it, i'll buy it....;-) i can never understand why connoisseurs spit the good stuff out, hope you managed to get plenty down your neck Grenache...;-)

 Yes thanks, I never spit out wine at tastings. Sometimes I'll pour out the rest of the glass sample so I can move onto another, which I cringe to do too but then if I drank everything drop of what they poured for me at the Boston Wine Expo I'd have been so drunk they'd have found me naked out on a pier.

And I agree with your philosophy - drink what you like, whatever tastes good and goes with the purpose at the time. If a person can be happy with a $5 bottle then that's much better than being somewhat unhappy with your $50 bottle.

Agreed, Our wine celler is full of all sorts of wine and I have no idea what they are, I can't tell the difference from merlot and sheraz.

How else could they get people to spend all that money on spoiled grapes? Anyone who knows anything about wine buys whiskey.
