The "Half-Your-Age-Plus-Seven" Rule Seems Reasonable When Choosing Dates
H.Y.A.P.7 means that you divide your age by two and then add seven and the product of the equation means that that is the youngest age that you can date.

Ninety percent of one's own age is a better rule.

Sure, a 50 year old could marry a 30 year old , but why? Michael Douglas looked ridiculous when he married Catherine Zeta Jones, and I don't say that out of envy. (She and I are less than five years apart in age.) And Demi Moore looks even more ridiculous hanging around with Ashton Kutcher.

Older people "think" they are "recapturing their youth" by dating someone young enough to be their child. Instead, it makes them look that much older. I've seen few things more pathetic and sick than 50-70 year old western "men" in Asian countries (especially Thailand and the Philippines) who are dating 18-20 year old girls.

Besides that, when there's a big age difference, there's also going to be a big difference in interests. Does that 50 year old still want to go bar hopping and to nightclubs every weekend? Does a 30 year old want to stay at home every weekend and listen to jazz and "oldies"/1960s music instead of dance music?

If you date and marry close to your own age, you're more likely to meet someone with similar interests. Relationships that aren't based on friendship, shared activities and shared interests will always fail.

To me, that is too lenient of an age difference. That means a 60 year old is fine with a 37 year old. Or that an 80 year old is fine with a 47 year old. NOT and NOT

The older someone gets, the relatively younger s/he can date them, with this formula.

I find that amusing. I've never heard it before, but I suppose in most cases the rule would work. I guess I'm only against it because I hate telling other people how to live their lives.

Also testing the extreme applications of the formula, If an 8 year old tries for a little girfriend then he has to start with an 11 year old. A 100 year old can't rock the cradle any younger than 57.

Still, I did find this amusing, thanks for sharing. I know now not to hit on any girls young than 27ish.
