I lived in Holland for a number of years and during the beginning of high school, we did Food
Technology. And I loved it!
It meant that I could help my parents with dinner when I got back home, cook for myself when they
were away, know the main food groups I had to have in my diet everyday etc.
When I went on exchange to Australia, they also had a cookery course. Later on, you could give it up
but I had great fun learning about the different cultures e.g. Italian cuisine; different pastas.
Healthy options for everything was integrated as well. Wholewheat foods, more olive oil instead of
sunflower oil. Great banter in the kitchens! |

This will be a very good decision as this will make the students more self confident and self served
as well. Apart from this they will learn the benefits of a healthy diet as well. At home they
usually have the foods without knowing its harmfulness to the health. But the proper knowledge about
the food which they will get during their cookery session at school would make them to have the
proper healthy diet. Along with the students the parents also will come to know the benefits of the
suitable diet for their children. With the help of this cookery sessions students can be become much
more self dependant and can handle the tough situation in future where they would have to cook by
themselves. These are the most important issues for which the Government of U.K. Should re-introduce
cookery lessons into school. |

Parents more than ever need to start taking the responsibility, and initiative to raise their
children right! This definitely includes teaching them to eat right! If your going to have kids take
responsibility for them! Also teach them some discipline as well, I'm sick of disrespectful kids!
Having a few classes in home ec. Or cookery would only encourage healthy eating, and independence. |

I'm for both cookery lessons and parental responsibility for children's health.
The first line should be the home and early healthy eating for all the family.
All members of the family should be educated into healthy eating and basic cookery as soon as
possible.
By the time some children reach secondary school, a lot of damage has already been done to them
through inadequate diet and unhealthy foods.
The foundations should be laid in the home, primary and then secondary school. This way subsequent
generations of parents will be able to understand the principles of a good diet.
Domestic Science as it was called was once on the curriculum and should never have been taken away
in place of other less useful subjects.
The family and government have a duty to make sure children can cook and eat healthy food. |

I think cookery belongs in the home. There are many subjects that pupils can more usefully spend
their time on than cookery. Perhaps it should be available as an option for those who wish to pursue
it, but I wouldn't like to see it made mandatory for all pupils.
I find it hard to believe that the epidemic of unhealthy and obesity in the Western world can be
traced to the elimination of cooking lessons in British schools, or that restoring them would
reverse it. |
