The Dropping Of Nuclear Bombs During WWII On Japan Was State Terrorism
Terrorism is using terror to achieve a political goal. It is well known that the main reason America dropped the nuclear bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima was because of their large populations, creating a a terror felt across Japan, forcing them to surrender. Views?

Nuking Japan wasn't just a terrorist act, it was likely a racist act as well.

Ask yourself why nuclear weapons weren't used on Germany. One obvious reason is that Germans weren't dehumanized - much of the war propaganda against the Japanese was racist, speaking of the people as non-human. Even if Gerany were an island nation like the British, it is doubtful the Germans would never have been subjected to nuclear war.

The other main reason the US did it was to prevent Russia from taking Hokkaido, which they had eyes on. The Russians had reclaimed the Sakhalin island (the big island north of Hokkaido) from the Japanese empire and were preparing for an invasion. Many ethnic Japanese still live on the island, living through five decades of Soviet communism and are still there.

By nuking Japan, the US caused the empire to surrender sooner than they would if a ground invasion had taken place. Don't kid yourself or believe any lies: The heavy losses the US took in Okinawa would never have happened on Honshu. The Japanese had no resources left and were preparing to defend the main island with spears. Literally, bamboo spears, and fighting hand to hand until every Japanese was dead.

There was no need of dropping the bomb on Germany, and it was not developed at that point anyway. I don't see how it was racist, but it doesn't surprise me that this would be mentioned by the left, because it is always mentioned by the left.

It was not terrorism because it was not a sneak attack. There were leaflets dropped and the government was warned to remove the civilian population. They were also military targets with the bases that were located there. I do admit that the military targets were not the main point of the bombing but rather a shock to the Japanese government, and it worked.

It also avoided the very scenario that you mentioned "fighting hand to hand until every Japanese was dead."

If it were racist why did the US spend enormous amounts of money to reconstruct Japan?

Actually, there is more to the definition of terrorism than that. I also am on the wrong side, so i will not continue.

Yes this was all over Internet few years ago, debating about this topic. People are cursing towards the Americans about this but I believe that they done the right thing. The Japanese and their beastly attitude towards fighting in World war 2 is not a stereotype. It is a fact. For victory and honor the Japanese would do anything, even if it means to kill off their own army men.

Japan is responsible for the dropping of the Nuclear bomb, Little Boy and Fat man, because they denied the Potsdam Declaration. Potsdam Declaration were agreements that American sent to Japan, telling them that the war is over, and all they had to do was just to surrender peacefully. The declaration showed that if the Japan denied this peaceful way to end the war, it would mean TOTAL DESTRUCTION on their country. Japan refused. The Americans dropped the bomb, to show Japan who is the boss.

People now then ask, "Why didn't the United States just end the war with another method?" The Americans could, but the probability of the Japanese to try and invade again in the future for revenge would be high, especially after the USA witnessed the ruthless Kamekaze attacks as the United States advanced. To prevent this, USA needed a way to stop the current war, and the future wars by Japan by scaring the Japanese with power. And the Atom bombs were the way. Many were killed during this method, which is horrifying itself, but I believe that it was the only way to stop the Japanese from ever attacking again.

I know that it sounds like a very evil way, but war is the very evil itself. The only way to stop deaths is to not have a war in the first place.

The USA at the time when they used the Atom bombs were high in casualties, not just by the KameKaze but the entire war, and the USA swore that they would not lose a single soul to a war that they have already won. I believe that this have influenced the USA a little as well.

They killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people to "show who is the boss" and this isn't state terrorism?

Terrorism may have played part of the reason the atomic bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, but the main reason was because Japan was right at the point of having their own atomic bomb in Hiroshima and had improved on the German Jet fighters that were taken out in Nagasaki.

The bomb was not fully developed to be used against Germany and it was the quickest way possible to end the war i think that had the bombs not been dropped on japan the war would have lasted much longer. It was not terrorism

The reason the bombs were dropped, was to save lives. Japan would not surrender, even though there was no way they could win. Germany had already surrendered, Hitler had committed suicide. Japan's alligience to the emporer was too strong. The Japanese people were willing to die for the emporer, ie. Kamakazies. Many more lives would have been lost if conventional war kept on going. As bad as it was, this was the best solution.

Do you believe that the idea of the Japanese not surrendering was propaganda driven by stereotypes? Many people view the Japanese as people who 'fight with honour' when in reality many have different beliefs.

Kamikazes were only a small portion of fighters that were so deep into the 'honour' ideal that they would strike fear into the Americans. Perhaps the thought of facing an army with no fear drove them to drop the bomb when in reality, the Japanese feared the Americans would wipe them out and fought not out of patriotism but desperation and survival.
