Yes.
Because we have poverty because OF that same Government.
Taxation is Government theft:
It is supposed to be "temporary and voluntary",
when in point of fact, in all reality as is, it is neither.
The Government STEALS from us Americans by way of taxes.
Those tax dollars could help feed, clothe, and house, and educate Americans.
Poverty is the fault of the U.S. Government.
So I agree. |

To answer the question directly, no. Trying to end poverty is like saying one can bring about a
lasting world peace. Now here comes the fluff.
I don't think the point is to completely end poverty but more so suppress it to manageable levels.
Just because you don't succeed in performing the complete task doesn't mean you fail necessarily. I
would personally continue to strive to eliminate poverty; I see nothing wrong with aiming high but
expecting to miss my target by a little. Expect the worst and hope for the best! |

It has been said that foreign aid is poor people in rich countries giving their money to rich people
n poor countries. |

The point is not to eliminate poverty, it is to put a air tight cap on it, cut it in half, and cut
that in half. To make being poor something everyone unites against, and make it fairly easy to get a
job if you happen to become poor. You can never eliminate poverty, or poverty as we know it, but you
can make that group smaller and smaller, improving living conditions etc.. |

You need to define poverty.
That said, it is far better to lead someone to better themselves, than try to offer a life, that
keeps them in perpetual dependence on the state. |

Actually poverty is a threshold with some degree of subjectivity involved. For example someone
making $20000 per year may not be in poverty in a farming state but may definitely be in a big city.
The government(s) many times have redefined what the criteria is for poverty.
With that said, as long as a criteria exists there will always be someone who falls beneath it,
otherwise there'd be no purpose to the criteria even being made. And lowering the bar so low that
no one can meet it makes the concept of poverty useless to society. |

As long as the human race exists poverty will be an issue at hand. |

How sad is it that someone will attempt to post a "serious" retort on the disagreement side of this

In the US, we send billion of tons of food all over the world, most of it comes from right here
where I live. It's sent to poor and starving countries, but the leaders of the countries take the
food and sell it to someone else and keep the money.
So does that mean we need to become the world guardian and stop the leaders? We already get flack
about Iraq, part of the reason we went there was to eliminate a murderous dictator who was stuffing
his people into wood chippers.....remember. |

A government could possibly eliminate poverty by taking from a different nation and giving to it's
own people. Stealing. Taking something for nothing to give to those who simply cannot earn
(literally) what it takes to rise above poverty.
At home, this is known as tax. I'm leaning towards the tax thing. |
