Not just can, the community always has an effect on the community. The only way it wouldn't is if
you spent your life in a hole in the ground not doing anything or interacting with anyone. |

People will be influenced by there surroundings. You can't say for definite what people will turn
out like in the future, however people will be affected by factors around them |

I agree with this statement, but then it is pretty vague, so it is easy to agree with. I think the
more specific question would be what that affect is. It all depends on the individual. The same
exact community can affect two people in entirely different ways. My sister and I both grew up in
the heart of the city, she loves it and it makes her feel alive. I hated it, I couldn't wait to get
away, the city terrifies me and I am a very fearful person in a large city. |

This is very true. We are all, initially, influenced by the community that we were born in.
Let's say that a person grew up in an upperclass neighborhood: This means that they most likely are
going to have the thoughts and the posture of a proper and wealthy person. We can look at the flip
side and see the poverty: If you grew up in a less than desirable area; you will most likely have a
tougher attitude and personality.
This doesn't essentially make you weak, but it is only the strong whom can prevail above the person
whom they have become to take a more universal look at life. |

A community can because if a person has been brought up in a gangster community. The more likely
that person will be like a gangster. |

I agree. With the breakdown of communities, people not knowing their neighbours and everyone
spending so much time away from the house at work it is more important today than ever to take an
interest in and know our neighbours.
If an individual or gang are problematic on an estate, part of the solution will be for the
community to come together to show that they find this type of behaviour unacceptable. Together,
communities have more chance to show these individuals or gangs what they think is appropriate
behaviour.
Once communities have demonstrated a willingness to work together then that makes the work of the
statutory authorities (Police, Councils, CDRPs etc) much easier.
With communities working together, life is a win win for everyone. |

Can is such a wishy washy word. Pretty much anything can have some impact on the individual. There
are too many open ended variables; it depends on the individual and it depends on the community. I
bought a house about a year and a half ago in a town that i am not thrilled with. It's okay, but
there is not much for me here other than i like my house and the neighborhood is quiet. This
community has no impact on me as a person, at least as i can tell. I have not made many friends
here, and i am not involved so much in the activities of this town. In another town that i lived
in, i was heavily involved in the local politics and had lots of friends. I was impacted a lot by
what went on there. I was in a different place in my life then and the town was different as well.
Now i am fairly disconnected to the town i am in. |

All groups have effects on individuals. We as individuals are part of various groups that help
shape and mold our personalities. The groups are all around us everyday. Why do you cheer for your
local sports team? Do you know any of the players, probably not but the community around you tells
you that you should cheer for them.
Religious groups are another example of a group dynamic that effects you as an individual. You
don't really need to go to church to worship a god as a relationship with a god is a personal one,
but it becomes easier if there are others who share the experience with you and hold you
accountable. |

An argument for the against could be that if an individual is very reclusive and isn't involved in
their community then they are unlikely to be effected by it. This could be supported by incidences
of people from different cultural backgrounds living in the same community but still retaining the
same way of life and the same practices. |

I'm going to give an argument against so you can have weight on both sides:
I've heard of one juror having an effect on
a group of other jurors- and thus the whole court- and thus a ruling- and thus a law- and thus a
community. So if that can happen, then a community can be effected by an individual as well. |
