The Catholic Church Did Not "suppress" The Gnostic Gospels In A "quest For Power"
How could they suppress something that was lost? There's no conspiracy, the people who put together the Bible probably laughed off the Gnostic Gospels as the nonsense they are. By the way, for those on the against side, tell me the basics of Gnosticism, just so I can see if you know what you are talking about. Cite your sources.
The historical record is undisputed that the Catholic Church burned Gnostic writings and persecuted
and murdered Gnostics themselves. Killing those who read books or write them is a fairly extreme
form of suppression. Whether copies of some of the Gnostic works which were rediscovered in this
century have been kept in the Vatican library all along is something that we can't know until they
grant free access to it, which they haven't done.
But I supposed, based on the goofy worldview that you articulated yesterday, those who did the
killing and book burning weren't really "Catholics" were they, because if they had been true
Catholics they couldn't have done the awful things they did?
Oh and I don't need to justify my knowledge to you and I'm not going to. In any case, familiarity
with the details of Gnostic theology is completely irrelevant to the point you are making.
What historical record? What are you sources? S-O-U-R-C-E-S. Title. Author. Publisher. If you can't cite sources, I'm not interested. Historical arguments require documentation. The Gnostic Gospels appeared a time when Christianity was being persecuted by the Roman authorities. Christians were being killed, not the Gnostics, they had no power to kill or burn books.
