I don’t think the bible was written originally for children, but it is certainly aimed at them
now. I would guess that the educational level of the people it was meant for is probably not far
removed from the educational level of children today, if not lower. In most modern societies, we
expect children to understand it as why else would we teach it in schools?
It really can’t be considered a very complicated subject. Could it possibly be that this is the
best time to get the hook in? I think so, otherwise why not leave it until they are adults and can
decide for themselves? |

If you mean the children of God then yes. But i dont think thats what you mean.
The Bible has been proven to be accurate through archealogical finds time and time again. The
writings themselves were written to the adults of the Nation of Israel (in the Old Testament) and to
the adult believers (in the New Testament).
Something you said in your commentary worries me also. You said "its what I believe so there's
nothing wrong with it." Be careful taking that line of reasoning because it opens up all
possibilities as equally good. In other words, someone could say "We should kill all the Jews,
Christians, and Hindus because they do not believe in Allah. Its what I believe so there is nothing
wrong with it." Do you see how dangerous that can be? |

Scientists base their findings on fact, that said, often they are presented with a different set of
facts, that undermine their theory.
Many books get reassigned to the shelves reserved for fiction it the Library.
You might keep you bible in the children's library, but I for one doubt if scientists would. |

I really don't think the bible was written for children...but i also think that the bible is full of
mumbo gumbo just for that fact that if god thought is was so horrible for gay to marry....then why
are they making it legal....if it was so bad...they wouldn't allow it......... |

It's better to read the bible and learn about our loving God then to read about harry potter and
believe about magic which doesn't exist. Thank God for the word and I agree with you it was written
for children, but also for adults. However this question seems to me more about what you believe and
not about what children should read. I suggest You read the prophecy of Daniel chapter 8 and if you
can understand it, for prophecy proves there is a God, you better become prepared for we are in the
short time of the End. This is not stupid to me but salvation and this is a Gift from God! Biagioc |

The Old Testament was a legal and historical record for the Israelites. The New Testament is both a
historical (and dare I say mythological) record of Jesus Christ. In neither case were children the
primary target audience.
If it were for kids then it must be one of the worst children's books ever written. Was it meant to
help them fall asleep?
And you said "to base a religion on a book that is so unbelievable is stupid" and to that I'd say
the combination of their ancient culture, their lesser education, and a co-mingling of
government/religion/mythology is why some find it a hard document to follow in modern times. |

Actually, the Bible was not intended for kids, because in the early Judeo-Christian culture children
were not taken into consideration at all and were effectively not seen as part of society. As such,
none of the apostles in the New Testament, or the authors of the Hebrew Scriptures, had children in
mind when they were writing. They were very much directing their words at adults. Additionally, the
entire concept of "children" and "childhood" only dates back to the nineteenth century. Before
this, kids were either seen as purely a nuisance, or simply as "little adults." As such, there was
no interest in providing them with separate books to read.
You might find many of the miracles detailed in the Bible as rather unbelievable, but it is well
worth considering the complex theological concepts that are presented as well, and that have
occupied the thoughts of scholars for nearly 2,000 years. You require a certain level of education
and life experience to really understand the theology behind difficult concepts like the Trinity or
the Paschal Mystery. Many adults find this challenging enough and I doubt that these concepts were
meant for the minds of children. |
