The American Media Has A Right-wing Bias
I constantly hear American right-wingers complaining about the supposed left-wing bias of the American media. This is complete nonsense. Any objective person can see that there is an overwhelming right-wing bias. You've got the generals who appear on all the news channels taking their talking points from the administration, reporters at major papers, such as Judith Miller at the New York Times or Bob Woodward at the Washington Post, basically working as operatives for the administration within their own papers, and clowns like Armstrong Williams actually on the administration payroll. Face facts, right-wingers.

Very well said, Hidell. I will add that the right wing noise machine has grown into a juggernaut in the past 30 years. The people who finance it, back it, and keep it going are extremely well organised. The left has no such organization. The whole idea that the left dominates the news is a well thought out bunch of propaganda.

As the saying goes, the US media is as "liberal" as the right wing corporations that own them. The only reason that people such as Keith Olbermann and Dan Abrahms are on TV is because having a few dissenting voices will attract enough sponsors to be profitable.

I think the media seems right-wing, but that might just be because I'm a left-wing extremist

The unreasoning right has achieved such dominance in America that it regards the voice of the rational centre as being left-wing. Political debate, as represented in American media, shows the howling right vs rationality and moderation. There is no representation of a genuinely left-wing point of view at all.

There are major media outlets which are unapologetically right-wing, such as Fox News and the Washington Times. The same is not true on the other side of the spectrum.

It's amazing that the right-wingers can continue to delude themselves about how the media is filled with left-wing bias even though right-wing talk-show hosts dominate the airwaves, and the major newspapers and television stations acted as propaganda outlets for Bush's war.

When, just before the 2004 election, the NY Times discovered that the Bush regime had been engaging in illegal wire-tapping, it decided not to publish the story. Instead, it sat on it for another year and only published it in the end because one of the journalists who wrote the story was about to publish a book containing the same information.

The fact that journalists disproportionately favour Democrats in their own political preferences is constantly brought up. It's probably true. It's also completely irrelevant. Journalists write what their bosses tell them to right and the bosses take their orders from the money men who own the companies. Being wealthy and powerful, the owners naturally tend to favour the party which represents the interests of the wealthy and powerful, the Republicans.

Look at MSNC taking their most popular show, Phil Donahue's talk show, off the air because he opposed the upcoming war in Iraq. How can that be explained in any way other than an expression of political bias?

Two words: Fox News. How can you argue with those words?

Look at the inception of Fox news. It was conceived as an alternative to the liberal media. Trying to get market share, and it has been successful as such. It is actually a populist news source. Allen Comes, Susan Estrich, Mara Liasson, Juan Williams are all on Fox News and are all liberal.

I don't deny that they are an alternative to the usual left stuff we get, not at all.

Even though I'm a left-winger, I disagree that the media is overwhelmingly left wing or right wing. IN actuality, I agree that there is a balance with political views in the media.

Fox is the only non-pundit show that is right-wing.

Almost every newspaper is heavily left-wing. (Most articles are anyways, very few may be right-wing or unbiased).

There are, however, a few right-wing radio show hosts.

I would say that overall, it is rather balanced and neither side has "a huge surplus" compared to the other when ALL forms of media are taken into account.

What delusion are you living under? Or do you consider Rush "puff the magic negro" Limbaugh to be "left wing"?

It depended upon the media and we are talking News and Talking Heads.

Radio - Right Wing controls it
TV - Fox Network is the only all right wing
Satellite Radio - Its about equal

You must not read the papers, especially not the NY Times if you think they are right wing biased.
The overwhelming majority of the media is left wing, liberal bias.

What dream world are you in? The New York Times is so let wing, they could fall into the Pacific Ocean any minute. There are only a small amount of media that is right wing, and they mostly are more middle of the road. Fox is about the only news cast that I would even consider calling right wing. Wake up and smell the roses.

"The New York Times is left wing"? Only to the uneducated, ignorant and dishonest.

That is the newspaper that sold out is reporter's right to anonymous sources, leaving reporters open to arrest for reporting the facts.

That is the newspaper that hired William Kristol to "write" a column that has contained more lies in three appearances than I have told in ten years.

Sign up for military service in Iraq if you so much believe in the nonsense you're spewing.
