Drat, I'm on the wrong side again. I've been hurrying too much lately, sorry.

Percussion instruments not only keep the beat but they're also the oldest of all instruments and
they're universal to every culture which developed music. |

I don't know. I never really listened for it or it just doesn't jump out as much as treble does. I
think I need some band experience. I never really enjoyed drums... Maybe I will grow to love it. |

Without drums, there would be absolutely no rhythym to songs. The drums actually help keep the
lyrics in sync with the music. Without the drums, the music would be all over the place and so would
the lyrics. So, in fact, the drums are probably the most important instrument. |

Anyone who says the drums aren't important in music is listening to "groups" with only one or two
important members/writers. Paying attention to what people like Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio, Mike
Portnoy, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Alex Acuna, Bill Bruford, Art Blakey, Stewart Copeland are doing
behind the set would blow your mind. They're doing far more than "keeping a beat"; in the best
groups, the drummer can add as much texture and nuance as any instrument, including playing a melody
on percussive instruments while using their feet on a high hat and kick drum.
Any gorilla can play 4/4 time. It takes someone special to play 15/8 while the rest of the band is
in 5/4 time. |

Of course they're important. There's a lot of music that just wouldn't be the same without the
drums. |

I happen to play the drum, and from my own experience, it definitely fills in the music and makes it
flow rhythmically a lot better. However, it isnt necessarily needed if you are using some sort of
way to keep rythme. A drum or drums is just nice to have. |

Without rhythm there is no music only noise. Drums are not the only way to provide rhythm but they
are the most common and extremely effective. |

You just stated it yourself "They keep the beat". Would you rather have a flute keeping the beat ? |

Drums are the best part of the band!! You are kidding me?! You take a pair of sticks and beat
things. If that's not perfect for my ADHD, I don't know what is...
Really though, drums are important because without drums, the music would sound
incomplete/lacking/weak. |

I need this ligament. I need this bone. I need this food. I need all these parts of my body. All
obedient in servitude. Not one cancerous cell with the exception of heartless precepts in the mind.
No body is complete without its parts that are essential.
Same as individuals in society.
Same as instruments in a band.
We all need to become Independent. And from Independence, we learn Dependence. Dependence this way,
is founded on the trust of Independence. Somewhat poetic isn't it? |
