Nowadays, generally the TV is absolute rubbish. There is never anything decent on and we are
constantly being plagued by the most boring invention known to man: Reality TV. IT ISN'T REALITY TV!
How many people can confess to living in a house full of strangers having to complete challenges so
they can eat. Soap operas are all the same: Some-one dies, or there's a fire, or there is an affair,
or there is a car accident, or there is family issues, or someone has cancer. How they are more than
10 soap operas all churning out the same bullshit in random intervals is astounding. |

TV has got so boring in recent years I really am failing to see the point of it the only programmes
that seem to be made, are braindead repetitive drivel, whilst anything original or thought provoking
is shot down by executives. |

Is there any necessity of this foolish box alive in our advanced society which is blessed with the
availability of internet? Is there any need for this television still active in our dynamic life? If
the answer is given honestly then it must be in a negative manner for sure. What we get in this
television we can have easily through internet in tip of a finger. Nowadays this television contains
only some peppy serials which do not produce any good effect to the social life. And the pace of our
life has become more dynamic & faster so that we can not engage time in watching the television. The
internet would be more convenient in order to get the knowledge of the outer world. Though this
television has helped us to be accelerated once but its accessibility has become lesser in respect
to other knowledge processing units. |

I agree its so bad now that I've limited my tv watching to cartoons and the 10 o clock news.VH1 and
MTV seem intent on showing the world just how low our country has fallen into the gutter. They were
doing it with rap videos now they show us with reality shows that feature people with no self-
respect doing and saying ridiculous things |

I agree that most things on television are rubbish. There are many stupid things on television today
that only corrupt the mind. It is true that many things are reruns or spin offs. There seems to be a
lack of talent in screenwriting industry.
There is also a lot of violence and nonsense on television today. It is hard to turn on the
television without seeing someone get hurt or killed; or without hearing about the bad luck people
have had in various situations.
Many nights, I can surf through all of the channels and not find one thing interesting to watch. I
personally think that there should be more educational programs or more positive programs (such as
those commonly seen on family channels.) |

Yes, television is mostly dross. I remember thinking once, before I got Cable TV, that if anyone had
it, they would never be bored. Well, now I have hundred of channels to watch but don't usually
bother. If I have the television on at all, it's usually News 24 with the sound turned down, just to
keep abreast of what's going on in the world.
That said, there are some compelling shows out there, mostly American it has to be said. Things like
the Sopranos, 24, or the Wire are really outstanding. It's a shame Britain can't produce anything to
match these for quality. I'm not sure why that is. Perhaps because the Americans use entire teams of
people to develop scripts for their shows whereas, in Britain, it tends to be lone individuals.
Even with these really good shows, however, I prefer not to watch them on television. Instead, I
wait for the DVDs to come out. It's much better to watch them on DVD, when you can watch the
episodes at your own pace, rather then be drip-fed them one per week, leaving you constantly
wondering what's going to happen next. |

Television of late has proven to be really rubbish. With hundreds of channels, I've got the ability
to watch a programme and watch it again an hour later on the next channel. I can then watch the same
programme a few months later on its sister channel and again an hour later.
Repeats. How many times can people watch Friends, or Top-Gear, or Seventies television, or old
episodes of soap opera, old episodes of just about everything there is. Repeats, some channels, such
as Dave are just channels of repeats. Virgin channel is just the same.
Britain always prided itself on its costume drama which the BBC does very well, but everything else
is fairly hum-drum, quite drab, not wonderfully written. Most shows start well and then just can't
carry it through.
There are some wonderful television programmes but they are so few and far between.
Generally, I think we'd be better off reading. I personally only watch what we record, then I don't
waste my life watching some marginally distracting but not actually entertaining drivel that's
on.
When television was invented, it was soon co-opted to be used for selling things to people. If you
don't think television has an effect on you, why do they pay so much to put adverts/commercials on
television?
If you watch rubbish television, you get used to it. You begin to appreciate the tripe that they put
out. Even the American imports are starting to drop off, how many CSI's can there be? I do love
House, but it's just another Cop-Show in a different costume. |

Television is a very important type of media. Nowadays, we have the Internet and things for
important news, but for some people, eg. The elderly who don't know how to use computers in general,
TV is very important to them, as it is one of the only ways of them finding things out.
No offence to any elderly people, i had to stereotype as an example.... |

Why would you say "rubbish"? Call it trash like a normal person. Besides, TV is pop culture and
where else are you going to see your news, comedy, weather, and other miscellaneous wonders? Where
do you see your entertainment? Oh right, you probably go to the theater like medieval times. Have
fun with Romeo and Juliet. |

No, I wouldn't say that the entire concept of television is complete rubbish. I enjoyed the
educational and meaningful programs on there, even though there certainly are many rubbish as well.
It goes the same with every type of media. |

NOOOOOOOO it is not!!! I love TV and tones of others to. I did a report on this, and had to take a

I wouldn't say that all television is rubbish but the vast majority is and it doesn't seem to be
getting any better. Scripted television is being aimed at the lowest common denominator, the
stupidest, most ignorant people it can possibly target because those are the ones that advertisers
can get to buy their products no matter how bad the products are. When it comes down to it, that's
what television is all about anyhow. |
| |
|

I am totally against it. You can learn a lot from TV. Yes, I admit that there are many rubbish
programs on TV, but every media has rubbish. The important thing is you need to know select the
right one. And the parents are responsible for guiding proper programme for their young kids. |

"Most television is repeats, or spin offs, it's unoriginal and rubbish"
I am not sure if you are aware of a certain logical fallacy called "The Fallacy of Composition?" It
is an attempt to over-generalize by saying that what is true of some of the parts is also true of
the whole.
Using the same form but with different terms, your argument could say thus:
Judy is a hard worker.
Therefore, her entire company must be made up of hard workers.
You said yourself that there are some exceptions. So out of principle, its just not a good argument
to put forward. |

This has to be a very personal view.
Many people think that most of what appears on TV is rubbish but many think TV is great value.
I think a great deal of what appears on the screen is rubbish but I'm not a fan of television and
never have been. I think Sky is a waste of money and hardly ever watch television.
However I do know that many people , especially those who live alone or are housebound find the
television a lifeline to the outside world or as company for them.
I do think that a lot of children's television is dreadful, especially programmes from the US. I
think television for younger children should be limited and monitored.
There are many high quality dramas, documentaries and current affairs programmes but we are also
suffering from an overdose of reality TV which is getting some bad press just now.
Not all repeats are rubbish and not all new productions are high quality either. |

|

Whilst I agree that television does have a lot of repeats, I disagree that it is rubbish. If I like
a particular programme, then I don't mind watching it again, and Virgin does have a lot of channels
to choose from.
I actually find the repeats useful on the Virgin channels because if I miss a programme on the
normal channels such as ITV and BBC1, then I can catch up with them on Virgin, with channels such as
ITV2.
In a way, nothing that appears on television can be completely original. Ideas are always picked up
from other things. Even if you watch a programme and think that the storyline is good, you can
guarantee that the idea will have been developed from something else. |

I don't think all television is rubbish, it's just a case of finding what you like and sticking to
it. With the technology nowadays, you don't need to watch all the television that is actual
rubbish.
I think with the quantity of programmes that are on TV, that the ratio of "quality to rubbish", is
probably not too dissimilar to what it was last decade (or the decade before that). I like to call
all the rubbish "filler", as that is effectively what it is. Television networks can not afford to
have quality programming on 24/7, the inevitable filler has to play its part.
I generally like to watch anything that makes me laugh, especially if it makes me laugh out loud.
There is nothing better than watching a TV show that actually produces an audible laugh while you
watch it. I guess that's because I am a true believer in "laughter is the best medicine". When I get
home after work, I want to watch something funny.
To me, if you have enough to last you, say 2 hours a day of TV watching, then that means there is
enough quality for me. Shows like South Park, Scrubs, Phonejack, Have I Got News for You, Live At
The Apollo - usually produce a laugh out of me. Now, don't be confused with the word "quality", in
this case I am using it to describe comedy, and "quality" comedy to me is anything that makes me
laugh. Whether it is "quality" after being analysed through a series of tests and checklists to see
if it is funny, is another matter! |
