Tarantino Is A Genius
When Tarantino first appeared on the scene, it seemed like he was injecting something really fresh and different into American cinema. The unadulterated violence got all the attention but underlying that was genuine wit and dramatic prowess. The peak of his achievement was Pulp Fiction in my opinion. Nothing he has done since has lived up to it and his recent efforts have been disappointing. So was he a genius or just a flash in the pan? Will he return to form or is his best work now behind him?

He is an absolute legend. Especially his script for the CSI episode where Nick is buried alive and the man holding him hostage blows himself up for no reason. Just like Planet Terror with all the random explosions, which actually starred Tarantino

Hi hidell, thanks for bringing it up.
Like Jakers says it is hard to define a genius, then I ask myself. Did he write true romance? Yes, can I watch that movie over again? Yes, Did he write and direct Pulp fiction a cult classic and play a great character in the film? Yeah, is he a legend in his own lifetime? Oh yeah Definitely.

Genius is such a strong word, but he deserves it i think. The dialogue in Dogs to the gore of Kill Bill is all very witty and melodramatic. Hes tried to redefine genres and bring back old movie traditions. He's somewhat of a pioneer, and his cult following is undeniable

I would say so. It would mean slightly stretching the borderline of the Genius category. To create Pulp Fiction, True Romance, Jackie Brown and the Kill Bills he deserves to be considered right up there. Pulp Fiction is a work of Genius.

I was not so keen on Resevior Dogs.

Genius? No. But good, yes.

A lot of his movies are pure junk made by ego (e.g. Four Rooms), so his highs and lows are more extreme than most filmmakers. But considering how high he can reach (PF, KB 1&2), it's worth putting up with the occasional piece of crud.

Bryan Singer (Usual Suspects) seems to fall into that category too.

You thought Kill Bill was good? I thought that was where he really lost it and went over into self-parody.
