Although I think that it is unhealthy for adolescents under the age of 18 to get a tan, I personally
believe that it's unhealthy for anyone. Magazines, the media, and many others sources are
contributing to the fact that a beautiful woman needs to be "skinny and tan". Every person is
beautiful the way they are, and being dark or pale shouldn't matter. What I am is saying is that I
believe tanning should be banned under all circumstances. |

Anyway, tanning is a different way for the youth who is growing to absorb more calcium. |

To be perfectly honest, I think sunbeds should be banned anyway! I have never been on one and never
would because i am so aware of the consequences. But there's girls my age and much younger who use
them. I feel like saying to them why the hell don't you just get self-tan! It's so much healthier!
I've said to my boyfriend who used to frequently used them if he went on again i would be very
angry! Untill he met me he wasn't aware of the dangers. I would prefer to be white for the rest of
my life, than to develop skin cancer or the wrinkly sagging skin these girls will endure at a young
age! |

I agree. It increases your risk for skin cancer and makes you look older. I don't understand what
kind of parents would let their children do this. Even being an eighth grader, I still have the
foresight not to tan. |

Tanning abuse has been proven to cause melanoma, among other things, but the health risks are
largely ignored. Individuals of younger and younger ages are developing skin cancers, and there is
no legislation to prevent this. Continuing to let underage individuals tan with no regard for their
health sets a dangerous precedent. |
