| TV Shows Seriously Mislead The Public |
| TV shows seriously mislead the public. Medical shows provide hope that loved ones will always be saved. Working in the medical field, I know this isn't always right. Many times, family members get angry because they think we should be able to save everyone. Crime shows provide hope that we will always catch the criminal in a timely manner. In reality, it takes along time to process crime scene evidence and trials take much longer than TV. I wish people would stop believing TV as real and realize that the real world isn't that easy. |

Yes, I believe so. However, if the TV show has no dramatic story line, no miracle -- like daily
life, no one will watch it. |

People are oblivious to the fact that TV is fiction! Everything on TV has a happy ending but most
the time real life doesn't have happy endings. 90% of television show make people think that no
matter what something will happen and make everything disappear. Life is all about luck and TV shows
all the good luck but non of the bad its stupid . That's why I'd rather not watch TV. |

In all honesty, i agree completely. People pretty much live their lives through television and the
people they see on television. They spend so much time watching it, that they allow it to consume
them, and they no longer have their own judgment. For example, everyone thinks that when they have
sex and then vomit, that they MUST be pregnant, and that is not always the case. There are so many
more cases to show how television plays such a big part in peoples lives, when it shouldn't. It's
ridiculous. Another thing people do is judge actors and actresses as if they have actually met them
in person, they know more about other poeple's lives then they do their own. It's ridiculous. |

Most characters in American TV shows seem to be more beautiful, physically appealing and better
dressed than the majority of people in the real world. Sometimes, these programs portray a highly
idealized version of everyday reality and may give the impression that most people live in trendy,
urban condos, like those portrayed in many US soaps, that convicting criminals and ensuring justice
is the natural outcome of good detective work and a well-functioning legal system, and that police
officers are always just and right, and several classes above felons, as portrayed on Fox's
television series, Cops.
Some people use television shows to escape from the mundane realities of everyday existence, so
seeing well-dressed and attractive men and women on TV may just appeal to them. But there is still
hope for those of us that find this somewhat irritating and deceptive--just turn on a UK-based soap
like Coronation Street, and you'll meet the sort of cosmetically-challenged characters that you may
bump into on the street. If nothing else, a relatively shallow program like that one will at least
bring you back to reality after a few hours in Hollywood. |

You're right. I was shocked when I went out for a walk today. I had been watching loads of TV shows
recently. In the shows, all the women had svelte figures, gorgeous faces and mesmerising eyes; the
guys were all rugged and muscular with chiselled jaws. But when I went out it seemed most of the
women were ugly and the guys were fat and bald. I couldn't believe it. It was a deep shock to my
system. I'm still recovering from it, watching some Star Trek episodes now to help me get back to
"normalcy". |

Well... People who take fictional tv-shows as gospel are obviously just very easy to 'mis-lead'. If
tv didn't do it, something else would.
It's called entertainment for a reason.
The only annoying thing for me is the constant use of ''perfect'' people on tv (aesthetically). It
just puts pressure on real people to look perfect. |

Never believe anything you see on the news, newspapers, or magazines. Nine times out of ten, its not
the truth. |

If people seriously believe that a TV program is real, such as ER, they definitely need psychiatric
help. It is just TV. If you live in reality, then you know that everything does not come up smelling
like roses. Besides people die on the medical programs. |

This allegation to television is not at all fully justified. It may be partially correct that there
are some television shows that can mislead the children or the youth. But it is highly assumed that
the parents should play much more aggressive role in order to control their children from watching
these types of TV shows containing the features that can influence their soft mind negatively.
According to me there is lot of high-quality TV shows existing in different channels these days.
There are channels like discovery, animal planets or national geographic channel which produce the
efficient and honest information. So how anybody could put allegation towards TV shows while the
numerical analysis to this topic supports the effectiveness of TV shows? What I feel that in
today’s world there are TV shows which entertain people as well as lead them in proper direction. |

Depends on what kind of TV show you're talking about. If you mean fantasy shows like Buffy the
Vampire Slayer, of course there are no real vampires running around, you'd have to be nuts to think
there are. If you're talking about documentaries on History Channel or Science Channel, then that's
something different and they shouldn't be lying to you. |

Television is used as a medium of education AND entertainment. We have to remember that it is not
solely meant to educate people and tell them the difference between right and wrong. Where some
programs are targeted at educating the audience others target pure entertainment. You can not point
at Star Wars and say that the movie makers are misleading the audience because it was a movie based
on fiction and made for entertainment purposes.
Most TV programs run a disclaimer at the beginning warning the audiences that the theme of the
program and events depicted have nothing to do with real life and any resemblance would be purely
coincidental. Now the audience should be able to discriminate between educational television and
recreational television. The programs are not at fault. |
