The old saying says there are three types of lies.
1. A lie
2. A dam lie
3. Statistics. |
| |
| |
| |
87% of statistics are made up on the spot. |
| |
| |
| |
They can be, especially if there are a lot of them. A famous quote from the Simpsons: 'Oh Lisa, you
can use statistics to prove anything. Three quarters of all people know that.' XD, lol |
| |
| |
| |
Good example. Results are often mistaken as the causes of other results of the same thing. |
| |
| |
| |
90 percent of all statistics are wrong. |
| |
| |
| |
Absolutely true. Plus a statistical correlation can be a coincidence and not an actual causality.
For example, 100% of adult cancer patients in the US own or watch television sets, does that mean
television causes cancer? It might but that's highly unlikely, it's just a coincidence. |

I pretty much agree, anyone who takes a point and acts upon it is more likely to live longer than
one who sticks his head in the bloody sand Kk.;-)) |
| |
| |
| |
Yes, but they can also be very powerful. As long as a correlation is not mistaken for a causation
(an error which is easily made and a distinction which can be hard to find) then statistics will
enhance knowledge and decision making. |

Another one. Divorce is dramatically increasing. The number of divorces have been exponentially
increasing over the years, but so is our population and the number of marriages. More marriages
means more chances of divorce, which means our statistics are skewed. Leaves us with the question of
whether or not the media is falsely informing the general public with skewed results for an
impending reason. |
| |
| |
| |
That's why vegetarians live longer. |
| |
| |
No...no...no.
Plaque can cause problems with the circulatory system (mainly the heart). Small particles break off
and can enter the blood stream.
Flossing can prevent heart attacks. |

Depends, and I do not mean the adult diapers, either ;-)
Depends upon your source of information/data. |
